Hi,

I've been looking at changing my old slingshot broadplan plan.  I was looking at the Pro plan which is $96.95 and then saw the NBT2 for $89.95 which has the same data plus the longer off peak time and the easyphone features.

The problem is according to the slingshot site I can't get the NBT at my address but according to Vodafones site I can get their red network.  I thought Slingshot were just reselling vodafones red network?

I think you are correct, Slingshot resell VF red network. Might be a bug in their address checker, give them a call to check

Yes it is Vodafones Red Network, make sure your not too far from the exchange because if you out on the edge your speeds can get pretty bad.
Vodafone recently updated their coverage map and I don't know if Slingshot has updated theirs.

Interesting I hadnt thought about the distance thing. Do they only offer ADSL2+ unbundlled, not ADSL1?

Edit: Ahh you could have been referring that if you are far away from the exchange you will be on a cabinet, thus cannot be unbundled (at this stage)

According to Cyril7 based on my modem stats i'm about 3km's from the exchange which sounds about right as its about 2km's in a straight line.
I'm currently on a 128k up plan and I'm getting about 4.2 down which is apparently about as good as I can expect because of the up speed which is why i'm looking at changing plans.

@nickb800 NBT is only supplied via the exchange, it's adsl2+ which is backward compatible to adsl1.

http://www.internode.on.net/residential/broadband/adsl/extreme/performance/
Has a picture showing speed vs distance, at 3km you should be able to get decent speeds cldlr76 from the exchange.

I have heard of people being put onto NBT and getting bad speeds and then being charged $50 to change plans to a Telecom supplied service. It's something to look out for.

We are due for cabinetisation in Dec 2010 and from looking on the slingshot help thats why they can't offer NBT.  Still don't get why Vodafone say they can (in fact had some dude from Vodafone door knocking offering their plans) offer the Red plans but slingshot can't.

I just got confirmation from Slingshot that they can't offer me TNBT :(

I enquired about changing to the pro plan instead and asked if they could throw in a free wireless router for a long term customer (about 8 years).  the anwser was no,  apparently the only offer is change to the everyday plan (with 2gb of data) and they sell me a wireless router for $29.95 if I signed onto a 24 month contract.

Got love the way people treat long term loyal customers!!!

Making me seriously consider the vodafone door knocker

Sign up to Vodafone and they'll give you a free wireless 4 port adsl router on a 2 year contract.... plus free connection.

I'm on NBT plan and according to Slingy's website, i can't get the service, due to having a cabinet install in Dec 2010 too, but i did sign up a year ago so that'll be why.

Even if you can get it, once they install a cabinet, you'll most likely have connection issues.

Vodafone might be willing to push their customers onto service that will turn to custard when other users in the street get cabinetised, or may be planning to migrate RED customers to Telecom as a way of keeping them with Vodafone. They probably are not planning to do any special deals for Slingshot customers (since Slingshot have their own Telecom arrangements) and Slingshot wouldn't be keen on migrating customers back and forth for no reason, paying connection fees each time you migrate.

Time to find a new industry!

I just saw a news article that may not be accurate, but implies either Slingshot or Compass (or likely a joint venture) are operating in 10 exchanges that Voda hasn't got to, and wholesaling service to Orcon.

CommsDay says: "Orcon now has a total of 41 unbundled exchanges, however thanks to a sharing agreement with Compass and Slingshot it now has access to a total of 51 exchanges".

Slingshot has some gear in some Hamilton exchanges. But as for the sharing with Orcon, there is not sign of that using Slingshots address finder. I put in an address in Wellington inside the Orcon+ area and it didn't give me 'the better network' pricing, just the telecom cost.
