hey guys,

you may have seen my earlier post coming across to Orcon..

I filled out the form online which was ranting and raving about the orcon+ network and even let me choose a connection without a landline (naked DSL). This was expected since my house is INSIDE the radius of the 'Orcon+' network on their website, and (working closey with telecom in my day job) knew that I was DEFINATELY connected to the Courtney Place exchange when I was with Telecom.

The order went through, I got broadband last friday... But they kept my landline intact with Telecom, didn't tell me I wasn't on Orcon+, and INSIST that Orcon+ is not in my area.. The Courtney Place exchange is the only Wellington exchange they say is unbundled.. so... wth?

You're presumably in a cabinetised area. You can confirm this by looking at the maps on the Telecom Wholesale website.

Because Orcon (and every other ULL telco) don't install their equipment in cabinet ULL connections are only available if you are fed from the exchange itself.

that's the thing... on Telecom I wasn't on a cabinet, internal Telecom support confirmed to me that I was DEFINATELY directly to courtney place.. and on Telecom Wholesale's website aswell as Orcon's website i'm within the area stated on the maps...

So are you scheduled to be moved to a cabinet?

It's possible that they are clued up enough to not sell you something they will later take away but not clued up enough to tell you!

You can see the cabinet or exchange you are connected to on the Telecom Wholesale site

http://telecomwholesale.co.nz/maps

If you are in Devon St then cabinet CPC/06 (off Courtenay Place) went live in December 2009. I'm not sure why anybody at Telecom would tell you otherwise because they use the exact same database.
