Just received:

2degrees releases microSIM details

As of Friday 30 July, 2degrees customers will be able to swap their current SIM cards for one of the new 2degrees microSIMs.

As their name suggests, microSIMs are a smaller version of a traditional mobile phone SIM card and are designed for use with the latest Apple mobile devices.

According to Chief Marketing Officer, Larrie Moore, 2degrees customers have been vocal in their requests for the new SIM card.

“We have a significant number smartphone users on the 2degrees network and a reasonable percentage of those are using an Apple mobile device.

“We will be enabling our customers to swap their current SIM card for a new microSIM, free of charge, from Friday 30 July*.”

A SIM-swap is the transfer of all the customer’s account details, including their current balance over to a new SIM card. To take advantage of the SIM-swap 2degrees customers are required to call: 0800 022 022 from Friday 30 July to initiate the process.

“We will also be selling the microSIM from Tuesday 3 August for $20.00 (with $20 of credit loaded) at Dick Smith stores,” said Larrie.

Good timing. Once they announce their 3g network and new data packs, I can say goodbye to VF and XT.

Hey there - just one thing missing from the info above. The free SIM-swap is subject to availability.

Thanks

Bummer. Do they not have a way to manage it online?

Hopefully they will release any data packages for ALL "smart" data-using devices.

Subsidising Apple products at the expense of their own 3G / data-using offerings doesn't seem to be in the interest of any telco that doesn't sell Apple gear directly.

And why can 2Degress charge absolutly nothing for a MicroSim yet Vodafone charges $30 for a Microsim swap or a normal Sim swap and $35 bux for a new connection. This is so unfair. I really want to swap but all my mates are on vodafone so they wont be able to text me back

Personally I think that's fine - 2degrees aren't everything to everyone and they cant hit the market too hard straight away. Wait and the playing field will be opened up...

Isn't the MTR on texting going to be ZERO soon anyway?

i thought everyone had text packs these days :)

with 2degrees im getting 400 free texts a month ($40 a month top up).

and if all your friends are errr "cheap" (dont mean to offend or anything), but wouldnt they also be interested in switching to the cheaper network, a lot cheaper network?

Don't forget for $10 you also get 1000 texts. so for a $20 topup you can get 1200 texts... with $10 for calling...

Does anyone know if the 2degrees MicroSIM comes with a regular SIM adaptor?
