Hi there, I'm currently looking for a new broadband/internet package, and Snap's 20gb plan + landline seems great to me!

But question. How good is it for gaming? I'm especially thinking of my PS3 (Warhawk, Fat Princess) and Wii here (Mario Kart, Super Smash Bros- can that game ever be played without crippling lag?!) what sort of ping/lag levels do you get?

Thanks

I'm on Snap and my son plays PS3 through wireless while i am on the pc, (modern warfare 2) and seems to have no problem with lag, and of course with snap you can watch TVNZ on demand through your ps3 (or pc) for free.

Common sense is not as common as you think.

I do a lot of gaming to the UK on both PC and Xbox and its fine.  Occasional problems like tonight where international bandwidth seems very low (0.55Mbps) but on the whole its perfect for the distance from the UK.  Local servers are good too, even with the fact I'm in Auckland and therefore route to Christchurch first.

compared to bigtime im getting +20 ping from the usa which is very good considering, and generally speaking you get 1MB/s downloading very pleased.

Ralph from Snap has said they are building a handover point in Auckland soon.

However until then if you are in Auckland you can expect +20-50ms on Snap compared to other ISP's.

Indeed.  I'm on the North Shore and its 25ms down to Christchurch before I start my route out.  No biggie at all.  I'm pinging 310ms on average to London, UK and xbox live works fine.  A little lag in places but to be expected.  As that is pretty much as far as I can get away from here I'd say Snap is fine for gaming!

Ragnor:  Have you heard when Snap might get this handover operational?  I would be interested to see how it adjusts my latency... the problem with emigrating 1/2 way around the world is that your mates are still in the country you just left!

Sorry don't know, I expect the answer would be "when it's done" anyway.

Can't be long as I've seen the kit I believe, its all nice new and shiny sitting in a rack at the APE. I'll leave someone from snap to give out further details though, but it does look like they are doing it properly and not just doing a half 4rse job.

Are snap going to have a handover link in Wellington at all?

Someone on gpforums seems to be going through the Auckland handover link now so seems like it may be operational now

To top it off snap now have google caches in place _b

I'm in Auckland. Played xbox 360, ps3 and pc (wow) online without any problems. Played with 2 consoles sharing same adsl line and still good. This was all on adsl1. In grey Lynn, botany and mt Wellington

I'm a big snap fan. Recommend them to anyone.

Hi guys, I too, am also looking to possibly switch to Snap from Slingshot. I'm hoping someone can tell me how high or low their ping is with Snap. Preferably someone who lives in Christchurch as that is where the exchange is and where i live. Currently i use slingshot, but i notice that when I'm playing Xbox live with my friends i seem to consistently have a worse connection than my friends. I'm looking at the fs/fs 35 gig plan so if anyone could tell me what sort of speeds they can get that would be really helpful as well.

Cheers Liam
