i see there are alot of discussion about how crap sling shot are , they have had bad press in the herald, its just a pitty i didnt see that before i signed up with and became TRAPPED!!!

i was tempted by the offer of free webhosting!! so i signed up!
a few days later i received a phone call too say that my broad band and phone was working,, great i thought so i logged in,, mmm a bit slow it was slower than orcon.. so i signed back in to orcon.. mmm it didnt work so i assume that sling shot had contacted orcon and taken over my line.. However when i rang orcon just to check that all was good, they had not heard a thing, and they were rather bemused by the lack of communication, any way since the message told me that all was good, orcon cancelled my account. the next day i arrive home and wooww i have no line at alll!!!, i phone slingshot and wait about 30 minutes, they say "it wasnt us, we havent taken over the line yet"" what , what the hel was that auto message???,, "youll have to phone orcon, and get them to recconect..
phoned orcon, ohh they said well we only provide broad band and phone, not phone on its own.. ring sling shot... mmmm no we cant do it they say,,,, OH MY F___ GOD!!!!!!!! "youll have to recconect a phone line,, ring telecom.. Phone telecom,, " that will be $150 "" .. OH MY F___ GOD.. so i rang sling shot and said im done with this sh___t cancel my account, im going back to orcon... "no sir you cant do that you will be charged and early disconnection fee $149" i didnt have a god dam connection..... so now they wont reply top my letters and have sent me to collections ,,

any one else had similar experiences, and any advise for how i should proceed????

oh yeah rock on orcon, no connection fee , no disconnection fee, no nothing just great service and willingness to help!!!

The grass isn't always greener on the other side. You should have done your research on other peoples experiences with them before signing up, becuase there is no such thing as a free lunch, and you get what you pay for. Fair Go also said recently that the most complaints they get proportionally, are about this company. Thats why I avoid ISPs that have contracts, so I can move at any time without penalty, but unfortunately there are only a few now who do this.

Personally if I was in your situation, I would write a professional letter outlining the problems, and give them 5 business days to respond with their explaination as to why you were given the run around.

ANd yes, I have also had problems with slingshot, which is why I left them. However I found you get quick resolution to issues,if you use twitter, and tweat them.

Advise them via writing that you are disputing the debt so they cant take you to collections.

Keep a copy of it.

Also log a ticket thru their obnoxious laggy help system so you get an email back confirming that they have got it.

Im out of contract for my internet but not for my cellphones. On pricing up the $200-250 I spend a month on internet there isnt anything really any better, not keen on the flatrate plan because of the term on the obsolete landline service part of the deal.

The problem is, at least from my experience, is that they don't reply to their help desk system, and I can't recall whether it actually emails automated receipt emails

It does email automatic receipts, and that is enough to prove that you have advised them of something, used automatic acceptance emails against another company in the past quite successfully.

If they employ morons to discard notices, that is their fault, not yours.

Their support site seems to be able to make firefox totally freeze for about 10 seconds at a time, which is strange.

Noooo !!!!!
Im trapped with slingshot and the service is shyt !! luckily contract is up in Nov comming up..YAY.

Im currently on The Next Big 2 plan. There is a road side cabinet 40m away from me and the main exchange is 3km away and in bewteen the exchange and road side cabinet is all fibre optic. Now im only getting 2mbs and Techs at Slingshot are saying "yes that is adsl 2 speed"..WTF..

So after 2weeks of non stop calling they decided to put me back on to telecom equipment. I rang this afternoon to find telecom have deined the request as I signed up with vodafone before transfering to slingshot and slingshot said it was my fault. I questioned this as the only way i could get on the NEXT BIG THING PLAN was by getting a vodafone phone line first !!!!!! The tech said...oh yes that sounds right.....NAHHH DUHHHHHH !!

So yea, still an on going battle what slingshot have finally agreed to Log a fault and send a Tech out..I think if ya keep ringing and hassling them ask for a Team Leader. They can not charge you for a service which is not connected (active) yet.

Just use their online help feature and they will sort it out straight away
Just kidding

Despite no option of TDR mediation generally all disputes comes down to the word reasonable, regardless of the forum
So clearly outlining your problems and acknowledgement of receipt as suggested above will ensure that you have proof they were aware at the time and that was the reasonable (and only) thing you could do
Then if they do not (or cannot) resolve the issue the question would be is it unreasonable to charge you given the circumstances
Which 'should' be a logical no, so try to remove the grey area for your future referencing

not agreed, as i asked orcon if i could get the same or different deal and they dont do free web hosting..

any way , i have written them two letters, one at end of july which they never replied too, but they did lie to the collections company that they phoned me... which they didnt.. and i sent them a letter with copies of all contact on the 6th sept giving 4 buisness days to reply, and well i have not heard a bean .. do i lodge with the courts ?? do i go in to sling shot offices and ask to see a manager?? do i bang my head against a brick wall and lie down like most who cant win??? or do i call fair go??

mmm,, thats what i keep telling them, but they reakon as i had logged in once the account was active,, but they had not fully taken over orcons line? so how can a service be active but on some one elses line???

Out of interest - did you give them a reasonable time to resolve your problem or did you cancel them straight away (albeit prior to you being connected)
Just asking as this is a section from SS Res T+Cs:
2.3
We will use all reasonable endeavours to make our services available to you at all times. However our services rely on us using networks and services owned by other people. As a result we cannot promise that our services will always be available or fully functioning. If our services are unavailable for any reason we will endeavour to restore service as soon as possible.

Hmm these timeframes arent making sense to me anymore.
Issue was the disconnection fee and you've sent letters and they've advised collections
Now they are sending a tech out to your house to try and resolve which sounds like a service they would only provide to customers

In any case this a suggested point of contact as last resort

the problems only started when you called orcon and cancled your account... never cancel your account. ever.

Yeah, although they can't contract out of the CGA. If they haven't provided any service to begin with, I wouldn't think those terms would apply.

Hi, no offense, but like others I couldn't make sense of what you said.

Sounds like you signed over to slingshot, found the speeds weren't what you expected., tried to log back into orcon and it didn't work (because you'd already been transferred). But then later you say you never had a connection even though you said previously you'd logged in and found it slow?

Also sounds like you were halfway through being provisioned for bb + voice (guessing from your references to telecom) then tried to cancel that mid job. BB and voice are separate products and can be provided by separate providers, and also provisioned independently of each other. I'm guessing by line you mean phone?

Still unclear as to your current situation. Are you still with slingshot, or switched back to your previous provider(s)?

Also hamish225 raised a good point., NEVER cancel your current service after you sign up with another, unless there is a reasonable gap inbetween (i.e. weeks) or the other service has been provisioned. A new connection is different to a transfer, ISP's must get it right, and if it's wrong it will only take longer.
