Hi all,

I am looking at internet options and saw that Orcon+ was a possibility as Orcon have unbundled the Pukekohe exchange. After discussions with Orcon and a variety of answers the new sign up team say they can't provide a service as we have been cabinetised. The Telecom wholesale map says we are due to be cabenitised in December 2011.

Does anyone from Orcon with a technical bent have any idea if I can get Orcon+? I can PM my address if required.

Cheers,

Matt.

My views (except when I am looking out their windows) are not those of my employer.

You can't get Orcon+ unless you are directly connected to the exchange that has Orcon gear.

It would be a bit irresponsible for them to sign you up to + when your line is going to be moved to terminate on the cabinet so soon.

The good news is once the cabinet is installed you should get a much higher sync rate/connection speed.  The downside being it will have to be a non plus plan.

I would have thought 15 months before cabinetisation would have been long enough to offer the + plan.

The cabinetising programme must be a PITA for the rival ISP's that are trying to unbundle exchanges. But I suppose this has been discussed before....

Hi Hairy1

We will put you on Orcon+ if your cabinet is 15 months away.

Can you PM me your address and phone number and I will look into it for you.

I actually read your post as saying Dec 2010 instead of 2011, opps!

Anyway just remember in Dec 2011 when your sync speed and connection stability goes to crap you'll need to change to a non + plan and have your line terminated in the cabinet.

The labour government gave Telecom a legal obligation as part of the operation separation - to deliver >10Mbit sync speed to 80% of the country.

You can also blame the (government) ComCom for pricing Sub Loop unbundling at a level where Orcon, Vodafone, Telstra haven't put any gear in cabinets.

Yep. Understand this. Fibre to the home rollout will be completed by then ;-)

Yeah. That was why the wink ;-) was at the end.... Given the progress completed so far, the bids might all be in by then....
