We all need someone to blame, but I just don't kow who to blame at the moment
I am trying to move from Orcon to Snap as I was getting rather sick of the very slow (sub 256k line speed) from 4pm until 1am.

I canceled* the Orcon connection a month ago and have approximatly 5 hours with Orcon in theory.
I called Snap up two days ago to find out what was happening on their end as I had expected a rather quick turn around time. They told me that the order for transfer had been rejected twice and to get the ASID number from Orcon. I did that and rang again, only to be told that according to Telecom the ASID number that I gave is not pointing to my phone number and there is no Broadband on the line to change.

I also rang TelstraClear just incase as I have the phone line with them at the moment but they know nothing and there is nothing in their system to show a change (which is correct, phone is staying with TC and not moving to Snap)

Can anyone offer some insite as to what I can do?
Cheers

*put in my 30 days notice in with Orcon of my intention to cancel the broadband service I am currently paying them for

This could be caused by a couple of different reasons. I am going to assume you are wanting to transfer your BB directly over to Snap however if a cancellation order has been placed with Orcon and your services have been disconnected you will need have to place a new connection order with them and there will be some down time.

Another possible reason is that the cancellation order you have open with Orcon is preventing the transfer order to complete as the system only allows for 1 open service order on your line at any time. If this is the case you will need to contact Orcon to cancel your cancellation until your services have been moved and then call back to finalize this. (if that makes sense :)

If possible confirm your cancellation date with Orcon and also may be worth giving them a call to discuss this with them as they will likely be able to shed some light on these issues.

Well, I called up Orcon just after lunch and asked about my line status. There was a cancel all services note on the line for 1st October PM. They said they would get back in touch ASAP, but when I rang up an hour later they had a note to say that broadband had been disconnected.

Few hours until I get home and see if that is actually true ..

But now i'm just a little bit annoyed as it will now be up to two weeks for Snap to get the internet reconnected at my place - and I can only assume that some more bad news will be given when that happens and I will be told that the local exchange is full and my connection cannot be connected.

I did the same thing...Orcon to Snap. I had to have my Orcon line disconnected before I could have my Snap connected.....straight transfer wouldnt work because I had an Orcon line as opposed to a Orcon/Telecom line or something like that.

To be fair to Orcon the disconnection process went smoothly although Im not sure if I was lucky as I had a guy who seemed to be really on to it, helping me...quick response to emails, did what he said he would do e.t.c.

Once disconnected my Snap line was up and going in 2 days. Much faster, no where near as many disconnects and a static ip. Good times.
