I am in an cafe on High St in Lower Hutt and only getting Edge on my NexusOne. Is that top be expected?.Does out mean I'm not using my broadband zone allocation?

For a new network it seems strange 2D have Edge capability.

2degrees always had EDGE, from the start. EDGE and WCDMA coverages are different because theyare different technologies.

If you have EDGE you are certainly on 2degrees (no other networks offers EDGE service in New Zealand), so you are using your standard mobile data allowance.

Thanks. I wonder why 2D went Edge as well as WCDMA when they were building a brand net network from the ground up and had no legacy stuff to worry about.

They deployed EDGE simply because their hardware supported it, and the fact it was always going to be a year or so until they launched 3G.

If you are using EDGE it's simply because the 3G signal is unavailable.

Lower Hutt CBD......hmm. You'd think there would be 3g there.

I was at a restaurant on Fergusson Drive in Wallaceville last night and my device dropped down to EDGE, but afterwards when I went to my mate's place a couple of blocks down the road my 3G came back.

Given the limited reach of 2100MHz I guess it's to be expected that they will still have some 3G dead spots to fill in.

Their Lower Hutt CBD site is on top of the Public Trust building on Queens Drive.

This won't help reception but is an interesting App to install. Sensorly lets you map Reception.

Currently only on Android but they are going to make it available on iPhone early next year. Also around that time I think they are meant to make the online Map zoom in to street level to see closer detail. Currently you need to use the App on the phone to see a detailed view.

I have mapped some of Wellington City on 2degrees, but as I am on Vodafone, haven't done any more. Slowly building up Vodafone reception now.
