I rang slingshot and inquired about being put on ADSL2+.
I was told that it could not be done as I am on the all you can eat plan, as this is an 'ADSL1' plan.
I then linked the man i was talking to, to the url: http://help.slingshot.co.nz/app/answers/detail/a_id/1614/kw/adsl2/r_id/102266 Where it states that all FS/FS plans are optimised for ADSL2+. He threw me some stupid reasons why i couldnt be put on it after this and danced around the subject, he would not allow me to speak to someone else with possibly more knowledge or information on the matter and when i asked how i could go about getting ADSL2+ he said that i should move to Telecom, then in his arrogance hung up on me. This was first off terrible service and also did not satisfy me with a direct answer to my inquiry.

NB: if you are unable to view the link above for various reasons please resort to the following link. This is a screenshot of the link above as of 08/10/10 at 15:43

From what I can see on the Slingshot website, You are correct in saying All I can eat should be ADSL2+.

This doesn't surprise me at all with the Slingshot Helpdesk, All you have to do is have a look at some of the posts around here.

Hopefully a Slingshot rep will see this thread and jump in to help.

I am a Slingshot customer and I'm pretty certain that they have done what all the others have done & outsourced their call centre to India or the Phillipines ( they pronounce my name Parrrkiinsen) , yes it can be frustrating especially when you're on hold for 5-10 minutes

I believe that have done that.
I am attempting to call them back and get this sorted. Have been waiting 50minutes already without anyone as of yet! This is unacceptable for an ISP

So what's your actual problem?

Are you on an adsl2+ capable exchange or on a cabinet?

Just got through after 68minutes of waiting to speak to someone. Got to speak to someone with some competence for a couple of minutes, when on hold while being transferred i was again hung up on!
COME ON SLINGSHOT!

On the Slingshot forum the staffs there have already confirmed none of their plans are ADSL2+ capable. i.e. not on EUBA
They have admitted the info stated in their website currently is incorrect.

To access the Slingshot helpdesk in under 50mins, use a cell phone.
The AYCE should be ADSL2+ if its available.

Re: the call centre location, earlier this year a slingshot rep stated on a geekzone thread that their call centre was based in auckland, but was staffed by a variety of cultures i.e. your're talking to an indian in auckland

I called them twice last month and received a pakeha voice each time, however have had different accents on occassions.

Im trying not to do a paul henry here!

Hi, the call center is in Auckland, not india, the philippines, egypt or anywhere else.

All plans are capable of ADSL2+, it depends on what you're being served by and what's in the exchange. If it isn't slingshot gear or vodafone gear (which are ADSL2+), you're at the mercy of whatever telecom wholesale have in there. It might be ADSL1, it might be ADSL2+. Most likely it's ADSL2+. All providers who don't have their own gear use Telecom Wholesale's gear.

BUBA is the replacement for UBS, and is provided over whatever your exchange/cabinet provides. If you can have ADSL2+ and switch to/signup for UBA, it's likely you'll have ADSL2+. If you've been on a UBS service for years, it's likely you're still stuck on ADSL1. This still stands EVEN IF you've been upgraded to a cabinet.

EUBA != ADSL2+. EBUA is a service ONLY available on adsl2, but EUBA is not the only adsl2 product. ADSL2+ is the layer EUBA is provided over. ADLS2+ also is what BUBA is provided over, but so is ADSL1.

yeah the call centre is definitely located in auckland, got to talk to a nice girl the last time I called and we talked about her school life in south auckland lol she got my problem fixed nonetheless.

As for the speeds, I find they are satisfactory for average day to day stuff. Everything streams quickly except unpopular torrents which even with the added adsl2+ speeds, will still be throttled by slingshot.

Two questions:

1: What does http://www.telecomwholesale.co.nz/maps say for your address?
2: What are the line stats and adsl status showing your modem/router's admin ui?

While that will tell you if the cabinet/exchange supports ADSL2+ it doesn't mean that the service will be provisioned as ADSL2+. If you don't understand the differences between the old whole wholesale UBS and new UBA products you should read the links above. These are the actual cause of the issue.

Slingshot: Sup brao, what duu you wont?

Well I was thinking about switching to Slingshot, but it seems that all these ISP's and NZ/Aussie based companies have terrible *cough* (D-Link, X-Net, IRD) customer support.

If you're on AYCE then you're on UBA, and if you're on UBA and ADSL1 then it's pretty likely ADSL1 is all you can get.

OP, I've PM'd you with more information specific to your situation.
