I have been receiving the same text message multiple times over the course of 2 days, it has been sent to me 29 times in total, 28 extra times after the original.

I can't receive any other texts from this number and when she does try texting me all I receive is that same text and not the one she sent from her phone.

I called up customer support today and have a reference number, she suggested turning the phones off/on (I had already done that myself and suggested my girlfriend do the same) but it didn't fix it.

All other texts are working fine (even from other carriers) with no time delays between sending/receiving.

My girlfriend is texting from outside of the country, Singapore to be exact, with a Singapore cellphone number. She has been receiving all my texts correctly, but when she replies it just comes through with that same text, and also when she doesn't even text me that text will still come through.

Any help would be appreciated.

I'm sure she will be able to text me from another number.

But that still doesn't account for all the repeats of that text that I am receiving when she isn't texting me anything.

I received two more of those exact texts at 3:16pm, one of them was time stamped at 2:16pm and the other was 3:16pm, it delivered them both at 3:16pm. (I had looked at my phone between 2:16 -> 3:16)

The SMS is stored on her network until the server (on her network) can deliver it direct to your handset.  It doesn't work like email (unhappily).  It sounds like her network thinks the delivery is failing, and is trying again (and again, and again).  Why, we can't really tell from what you've given us.  It may be a problem on her network or on 2Degrees' network.

Sorry, I didn't make it clear. Until the sending server knows that you got the first message, it isn't likely to send any more of them.

Since the message is getting to you, it might be that her network doesn't like the format of the success response.

Well it is almost hourly for most of the the resends. (speak of the devil...another one 61 minutes after the last one)

I had figured that it was stuck somewhere and not being counted as 'sent', but seeing as as we have had 652 texts between us on that number alone, (30 odd with that one repeated text....) I don't know why it suddenly started playing up.

She sent one through to me a few minutes before the repeating text, which was at at 7:27pm - 21st Oct, then the repeating text is the one she sent at 7:31pm - 21st Oct.

So I couldn't possibly think what would change within that 4 minute gap to change how they are accepted between the two networks.

She has been able to receive my texts and then has gone to reply to them, but again, that one text is the only one that is being sent to me.

Catalogue of the texts:

Sometimes these strange sorts of things happen when the senders handset SIM/Storage is full, with the message sitting in the outbox (ie it keeps resending but "not completing the transaction" by successfully removing itself).
Worth checking anyway.

Cheers, I asked her if she had anything in her outbox etc, she didn't.

I have now received it nearly 100 times.

But I have figured something out, whenever I receive another text then I think I receive this text too.

I texted myself several times, and each time I received this text again, that along with the fact I get them nearly hourly makes me think it has to do with the 2degrees network (or Vodafone network which I connect through?? (Listed on my phone under network 'Vodafone NZ')) polling my phone/sending out any backlogged texts.

This is beyond annoying now, I can't receive any texts from her (I have seen her type them in (cam) and send them) and then the next second I get that same text again instead of the one she just typed out.

She is able to text and receive texts from friends in Singapore, she can receive my texts, and so it has to be a 2degrees issue.

Later today hopefully the tech people will call back as it will be the 4th day after ringing them.

I called them earlier today and the guy said he would forward it onto the team leaders, it must have been forwarded because it is working now. Received the few back logged texts and I'm also able to text/her text me again.

Thanks for fixing it, happy that it is fixed and at how quickly it happened (the first call centre staff said 4 days, didn't realise it was supposed to mean 4 working days. So they actually fixed it within the first working day).

Thanks support/technical staff that fixed it.

Hopefully will continue to have good results from 2degrees.Laughing
