I've been trying to email someone with a slingshot email address, but I keep getting "bounced" messages, saying the mailbox is full.

What happens to these emails?  Do they get delivered eventually, or circle for ever in cyberspace?

It's a pretty awful service that limits inbox capacity.  If they are going to do that, at least they should ring their customers and warn them they're nearing the limit.

Typically if you're getting an email bounced back to you for non-delivery, then the emails won't be delivered unless you resend.

Think of it like a return to sender from NZ Post.

The bounced message will usually tell you if its going to retry or not.

Most email providers do warn their customer by sending an email....along the lines of "You are approaching 90% of your mailbox capacity" - but if the user isnt checking their emails, then thats their problem, not the ISP's.

I've tried resending, but no go.  I get this message:

A message that you sent could not be delivered to one or more of its recipients. This is a permanent error. The following address(es) failed

So I guess the guy didn't see the warning message and now he's stuffed?

All mail systems have some sort of storage limits - some users try and keep their whole life in a mailbox though. I guess your recipient has gone into hibernation....

Pretty much. There's not much you can do until the recipient clears his mailbox.

He's an Asian trader on Trademe.  He sold me a Nokia charger, but it was the wrong one. He kept inssisting it would be OK, but it has a 2mm end plug instead of a 3.5 mm.    I've returned it, but he keeps insisting he can give me something else, which will do the job.  I've told him "No" - I want a refund.

The latest email from him states he will be sourcing something from his supplier 30 km away and will courier it to me today.  I've already bought the correct charger from Nokia New Zealand.

So, though I've tried to tell him I don't want this and want a refund, he's not receiving my emails.  I think I'll just return the package when it arrives.  I may have to give up the idea of a refund and just give him bad feedback.

Usually the company will send an email to the person with a full mail box saying someone tried to email them but their mailbox was full.

Thats what i get anyway, so he should know that someone has been contacting him.
