hi all, a few months back when i was having problems with my internet i looked into when my cabinet would be upgraded.
It was due to be upgraded in either November or December. Iv been trying to find the site with the info on what exchange im connected to and when it will be upgraded.

Can anyone point me in the right direction? I entered my address in the telecom thing here

http://www.telecom.co.nz/broadband/speed/adsl2

and that just tells me my address has already been upgraded with ADSL2+ technology.
Im pretty sure thats not what im supposed to be looking at.

Wanting to get my head around what plan i will need to switch to in order to gain the benefits from the new cabinet when its all upgraded.

Im sure its supposed to be happening very very soon.
thanks

I don't think orcon has any DSLAMs in cabinets? So you'll still be on the same DSLAM in the cabinet and nothing will change.

(Unless the cabinet going live messes up your sync rate, which has happened before)

I dont think Orcon have any unbundled services in HB, so your on a Telecom Wholesale connection, so in theory you should see a change in service, check your modem stats now, (ie line attenuation/noise margin/sync rate etc) maybe post them here, then do the same ina few days time when youve noticed (if you lucky) a bump in service.

if you are on orcons + plans, then if you get cabnitised expect worse preformance. they need to lenghten the service leads to get you through the cabinet, and if you are not a telecom or telecom wholesale customer, you don't get to use any of the good stuff in those cabinets.

if you are on a wholesale plan with max/max you should see an improvement in your sync rates, assuming your modem is adsl2+ compatible.

Ummmm, no thats not a viable solution, its the fact that the effected lines are in the same wrapper as the cabinet lines, to run a new street distribution feeder just for you is not an option.

Regardsless there is no Orcon+ ULL service in HB.

well im not sure exactly what they do on a chorus level as im not a chorus tech, however i know if you are on LLU and you get put on a cabinet it's generally bad news.

Correct it is bad so you have no choice but to be put back on a service from the cabinet, running an new line from exchange to your house to circumvent the midspan injection issues from the cabinet, however its not a cost effective option.

Customers get moved from an Orcon+ LLU service to an Orcon DSL Service. Service will be provisioned from the cabinet.

Customers don't need to move away from Orcon to make use of the cabinet.

Well, once you get moved from Orcon+ to the normal orcon DSL service, depending on how Orcon has the backhaul for their ULL service setup you might end up with worse on peak speeds. ;)

Hi, as has been mentioned Orcon dont have ULL connections in HB so one assumes that you will be moved to the cabinet as other wholesale customers will.

Its quite common that during the transition there is reduction in speed while lines are cut over, then things go very good once a clean cut to the cabinet is made. I would give it a few more days and see what transpires.
