Good work 2degrees on the new monthly plans.

However, does the Data included in each plan work everywhere in NZ, or is it restricted to Auckland/Wellington/Christchurch/Queestown ?

e.g. If I signed up to the $29 plan, and I'm in Taranaki, do I still get to use 50mb data?

Its a national data bundle so it can be used on 2G or 3G

It will work using whatever coverage is available at the time - 2degrees 3G, 2degrees EDGE, Vodafone 3G (2100 or 900, depending on the location), Vodafone GPRS.

Sorry to hijack a little.

If my phone is in the Boradband Area -in my case Auckland - and the signal drops to either GPRS or EDGE does that then mean the phone uses National Data? I have txt LOCK to stop the phone using data outside these areas as I don't want to be charged, but just nervous I won't be able to use data inside the Broadband area because GPRS or EDGE is not counted as Broadband data.

I hope that makes sense!

Thanks.

Does not matter if the traffic is moved across the 2G or 3G network its a national data bundle

Data is data, I'd expect it to continue to be charged from the active bundle.

what happens if I have the plan that gives me 100MB national data, and I also add a bolton for 1GB of 'in zone' data. When I am in a zone does the 1GB get used first or the 100MB national data get used first? does it depend on which expires soonest?

If I have lots of time left on the 1GB plan I might prefer to use that up when I am 'in zone' so I can save the 100MB for when I go national.
On the other hand if I am 'in zone' and only have 2 days left on my 100MB and have just started a 1GB plan I might prefer to use the 100MB up because I'll lose it if I don't.

I pretty sure I understand but I want to be super clear.

I guess what I'm asking is, is that when you drop from 3G to EDGE does that starting using your natioanl data you have or keep using your broadband data. It is kind of annoying having two separate data plans, cause like you say - data is data!

Inside a BB Zone, we always use the broadband data pack first, followed by the national data pack (or postpay plan minutes).

If you have more than one pack of the same type - broadband vs. national - then the data that will expire soonest is used when charging out of that type.

The pack type decision is made first, then the pack bucket - so a national pack expiring BEFORE a broadband pack will nevertheless still be used AFTER the broadband pack if you're in zone.

It doesn't matter whether you're on 2G vs. 3G, only whether it's 2degrees coverage vs. Vodafone roaming coverage.

In 2degrees coverage we always use a broadband pack first if available. In Vodafone roaming coverage we only use national data (50MB pack or postpay plan data).

ok,  so under that second scenario (100MB national expiring in 2 days  and 1GB expiring in 30 days) I will still use my 1GB before the 100MB.
So if I don't use all of that data in the 2 days before the national expires, then the 100MB is lost.

Sorry to keep bombarding you but you have been very helpful. So to confirm:

1: If I text LOCK, my postpay national data won't be used outside your blue BB zones but still will be used in the blue BB zones if I run out of my 1GB BB data?

2: Data in a blue zone - whether it is using GPRS, EDGE or 3G - is coming off my 1GB BB add on and the included 50MB national data will then get used?

If you text LOCK (actually, we do it for you when you first buy a broadband pack) you can still use your postpay data, BUT we will not start charging you 50c/MB outside the blue zones when it is used up.

Inside the blue zones (i.e. in 2degrees coverage) we will use your broadband pack, then your postpay plan data, and then charge you 10c/MB for the remainder of the validity of the BB pack. So if you buy the 12GB pack and use it up within a month, we will charge you 10c/MB for the next 5 months inside a blue zone.

Note, you'll never get GPRS on 2degrees coverage, only EDGE. If you're not getting EDGE, then you're roaming on Vodafone, and you will not be using the broadband pack.
