Is it really static or just not changing because their DHCP server has a long time lease? I you turn off your modem, go to sleep and turn it on again next day, does it get the same IP?

Orcon IP's are fixed, but not static, as I recall.
Your IP is not garunteed but unless theres a reason to change it, youll get the same IP each time.

You need to ask them if you want your IP changed. One does have to wonder why youd care, though.

Usually because of limits on rapidshare free accounts, and things like jdownloader being able to disconnect and reconnect your router to get a new IP to bypass the delay on downloads.

Mm. Using dynamic Ip services to circumvent deliberate bans or restrictions. Awesome.

You'll need to request an IP change from Orcon themselves.

Funny, because most folks like Statics and in many cases pay more for them...

People have this idea that a dynamic Ip address is harder to track than a static. At the end of the day logs are logs and you can still find who was using what IP at what time while downloading X.

Used to get heaps of Police warrants for details on users who had xx IP on XX day/time and interestingly enough they always had dynamic IPs and had a tendency to restart their modems after offending.

Well, thanks for the answers, and no i do not think that an dynamic IP is harder to track than a static. And yes to circumvent a ban from a gameserver which my siblings bad mouthed in. You guys happy now?

So can we ask why you wouldnt want a static ? :)

The other posters are correct tho (and none of it was trash talk) , youd have to either turn off your router for a while or request a change from orcon - but youd end up back in the same boat if you wanted to change again.

Edit : And I see youve edited your last post so my query is now moot ;)
