Hi, here is chain of events -

I had an old 2degrees SIM that I used to move my vodafone non on to, called 2degrees  center they said it is ok to use the no but I need to top up before midnight of 5th November to keep the number.
4th Nov - filled up form  online to move my vodafone number to 2Degrees
4th November  @ 7.38 PM got a text from 2Degrees  that my number has been moved to 2Degrees

5th November -  working good on 2degrees all day and balance was $10.00, give $10 to move.
5th November - got a text message from 2degrees at 2.12PM that credit will expire TOMORROW
5th November - bought some vouchers to top up from botany store as they were giving double top up.
came home late phone still working till about 8.30 pm,
then at around 9.28 Pm took the phone out of my pocket to top up - SIM CARE REGISTRATION FAILED!!!!

Called 2degrees, person said number ERASED and went back to vodafone and they can't do anything.
tried tried tried but they said nothing  doing. Told them it was 2degrees fault as number should not have been made active till midnight today, they acknowledged it and said you did not top up for 1 year or something, not sure what they were talking about. They said talk to vodafone, yeah right! Asked to speak to supervisor, I was told no supervisor available!!

Called vofdafone they said number will most probable go in a pool or something, they checked and said no not back at vodafone yet, call back tomorrow.

I had the number for a very long time, seems like made a mistake to move to 2degrees, want that number back anyhow!! Any thoughts, can 2Degrees representatives care to comment???

IIRC, once a ported number has been disconnected, the last carrier has approx 4 days to reconnect it. If they don't it is returned to the donor carrier and enters a recycling period before it is reassigned to someone new on their network.

After the 4 days have past the only way to get the number back is for the donor carrier to reconnect it, and then you to re-port it back to your carrier of choice (or say with the donor carrier; your choice).

I'm sure someone else will have a few cents to add, but I believe that is basically right.

I am pretty sure you are right and 2degrees should activate my number and give me the $10 credit(that I already had) and an inconvenience credit of some sort.

why did you wait until the very last possible day before porting your number?

Sounds like a recipe for disaster to me.

You would have to get Vodafone to activate your number / reassign it to you and then re-port over to 2degrees.

... Maybe dont wait until the last chance to do it this time..

+2 - you should change the title please - "i stuffed up! Was a huge mistake to topup that late. i could have topup on the 4th but i choose to take all the chance and did it on the 5th Tongue out"

anyway, i am sure nzbnw is correct. since this happened in november, you should try liase with vodafone, not 2degrees

If you don't top up for more than a year, the sim expires, the credit given to you by 2 degrees does not constitute a a topup, so it still expires. It is YOUR fault for being ignorant and leaving things to the last minute.....

Why did you leave to the last minute? The number was so important to you it's just stupid to let the account lapse!

Vodafone can't help the MSISDN remains with its current carrier for 7 -14 days and if passed back to Vodafone after this time it goes back into the number pool to be recycled. Please stop telling them to talk to Vodafone.

And I am sure someone on 2degrees will be able to reactivate the MSISDN but why oh why leave it to the last minute your just asking for trouble.

FYI Vodafone NZ deactivates prepay connections 13 months from last topup

Midnight is the start of the day, so that would mean topping up no later than 11:59,59PM on 4-Nov. (oh, and are you talking Nov or Dec here?)

Am I the only one confused with this story?

unlocker:
I had an old 2degrees SIM that I used to move my vodafone non on to, called 2degrees  center they said it is ok to use the no but I need to top up before midnight of 5th November to keep the number.

4th Nov - filled up form  online to move my vodafone number to 2Degrees
4th November  @ 7.38 PM got a text from 2Degrees  that my number has been moved to 2Degrees
5th November -  working good on 2degrees all day and balance was $10.00, give $10 to move.
5th November - got a text message from 2degrees at 2.12PM that credit will expire TOMORROW

You asked to move the Vodafone number to 2degrees on 4th November 2010? Is that right? Or was that 2009?

If the number was moved on the 4th November 2010, then how come 2degrees would expire the credit on 5th November, just one day after?

This story is not clear at all.

Like most other posters, I'm also a bit confused by your story. But the bottom line is, if Customer Care told you you needed to top up before the next day to keep the number, then you should have topped up.

A $10 credit does *not* count, sorry.

All dates are 2010, number was moved on 4th Nov 2010 and it was expired at 9.05pm on 5th November, 2degrees expired it coz the 2degrees SIM I used was not topped up for a year but was supposed to expired 4th November midnight as per the text sent to me by 2degrees.
