I've had a good read of the forums and anything relating to this, and have had a chat with a retailer and just want to clarify something.

Situation is that I am currently on VF On Account, and I already have a registered 2degrees SIM with credit, text and data on it.

I want to port from VF and end up on a Pay Monthly plan, and I want to do this in a store (preferably Harvey Normans) so as to get the Pay Monthly bonus associate with signing up for a 12 or 24 month plan.

I have been told that to do this, I need to purchase a Pay Monthly SIM in store and then port this to my existing 2degrees account, and then port my VF number across. Is this correct? I really need to get another 2degrees SIM to do this, if I want to get the Pay Monthly bonus?

I'm not too fussed if I loose my existing text and data balance, but I am worried about my credit balance going west. (Will I loose my existing text and data balances if I convert to Pay Monthly, or will they get added to the balance?)

I know I wouldn't have this if I just converted to Pay Monthly online, but I figure I ain't changing providers again for quite some time, so I might as well make use of the store bonus' for signing onto Pay Monthly for 12 or 24 months (WIIFM after all!).

The other pain in all this is that my local Harvey Normans know nothing about the Pay Monthly bonus, and that is where I want to get the vouchers for. Sigh.

Could someone from 2degrees please clarify as I am sure I'm not the only person who would be doing this.

If you already have a 2degrees SIM, this can be switched to Pay Monthly online. Once the switch is complete, port your Vodafone number. Once the port is complete, contact Vodafone, just to be sure your Vodafone account is closed.

I've heard that they will do it automatically now, but it can't hurt to call and be sure.

Your prepay credit will be transferred to a postpay credit; other balances such as SMS and date remain.

A colleague has just pointed out that I didn't answer your question about the sign-up bonus: yes, you have to do it in shop for that. :-)

Could try Dick Smith? It's all still very new for the dealers I guess...

And that requires me getting another 2degrees SIM from the store. How do I then reconcile that with my existing 2degrees account/credit/balance?

You walk into the store with your existing 2degrees SIM and ask them to sign you up, on that SIM. :-)

Ah - which is not what the store told me. OK - I can put them right. They wanted me to buy a new Pay Monthly SIM and register it and they thought I could then "move that SIM" it to my existing account/022 number.

That is why I wanted to ask the question here as I didn't think that was correct - it just seemed wrong to end up with 2 SIMs/numbers and then have to combine them.

I am in process of above, but just a bit behind.

I logged into my 2degrees (or whatever its called) and changed my number to one I can easily remember, and it said a text would be sent when the process is done, then it logged me out. I haven't had that text (5 hours later, and it seems I can't log in again until this is complete?), does anyone know how long I should expect that to take?

For me, I didn't get any text either, but I was able to log on to "Your 2degrees" using the new number within roughly 30 minutes. I could call to/from the new number within about ten minutes (ten mins was the first time I tried and it worked).

I guess the text message bit is broken but the rest works...

This is for a prepay SIM I'm testing in advance of moving my work 021 number over. Thought I'd get a (sort-of) matching 022 number while I had the opportunity and then keep it as a spare SIM. I will now set it up for auto topup after the recent unfortunate experiences of other members who let their prepay numbers lapse, but my 021 will go on Pay Monthly if I do switch.

I spend $63 per month average with VF and I've been with them for nine years and with the same usage I will be paying half that on 2deg. I wonder what value customer I am to them?

I then told her about the promotion, and she said sorry that only applies to 3 handsets, and this is not one of those 3. I then said the wording of the promo is discount off ANY phone, she had to read a memo, and then we were sorted, but it seemed she had been selling lots of phones and not telling people about the promotion or applying the discount when it was required.

Now I have phone + sim, and just went into Dick Smith to sign up, and was told that is not done instore - must be done online at home, and added I could not use my sim, I needed to buy a pay monthly $10. Also further added that the promotion only applies to $50 OR $100 OR $150, no other amounts, when clearly it states the other amounts on the small print of the promotional material.

So now I am heading to Harvey Norman to see if they know any better?

EDIT - I forgot to add Smith City also had no clue about the new plans even with the promo posters up. They still thought there was only 1 plan!

I was lucky as Warehouse Stationary (where I got my phone) knew about that promo.

Good luck doing it at Harvey Normans! They told me that they won't sign people up to Pay Monthly outside of the centers were 2degrees have their own towers as they felt the common consumer won't understand about the difference between 2degrees data and the nationwide data and they felt too many people outside those 4 main centers would get burnt with data charges.

I was at Harvey Norman for 50 minutes. They were great to deal with, but like the rest had received no training, and were not even provided a username/password to get into the 2D system to sign me up.

In the end it seems I got caught by the common trap, NZ Drivers License details don't match those stored in (some unexplained) database, even though the details on the card are absolutely correct, and no changed have occured during the license period, and no new versions issued after the current one.

It will be interesting to see what run around I get tomorrow ringing LTSA to see who has been editing my NZDL file without my knowledge.

All data allowances on Pay Monthly are national data, and can be used anywhere in NZ.

ONLY the broadband value packs are restricted to 2degrees coverage areas.

I called the driver license people (NZTA) and got everything sorted. It seems the drama was all over fact I have 3 endorsements I have not renewed. The NZTA issue new license when endorsements are gained, but not when they expire - which make sense as they have the expiry dates on the back, so its dead easy to check, and unnecessary to send out another license.

It seems the problem is a limitation in 2 degree's system, as my license is 100% accurate as you would expect, and since the license is produced from the NZTA database, their info correlates and is also 100% correct. It cannot be a Veda issue as I have my credit file here, and since those endorsements expired I have had 12 credit checks which all went fine and have accepted credit and signed up to Vodafone no issues.

So after another drive to Harvey Norman, and 1 hour 10 of waiting, and answering the questions all over again, it fell over at the same point.

Hopefully there will be a resolution before christmas.

I've just gone through the on line sign up process (decided to just go on it month-by-month rather than stuff around with doing it in store) and I have to say - WOW!! It was almost too easy!!

Thought I would have an issue with sign up due to drivers license, but nope, it liked me. My only issue was that I actually read the entire terms and conditions (yep - from start to finish, some skimming over unimportant bits) and by the time I went to click on accept/subscribe or whatever the button was at the bottom my Your 2degrees session had timed out so I had to log in again. But luckily it had saved all my details already so I just clicked on 'Sign Up to Pay Monthly' and click the final button to Sign Up. And a couple of minutes later the credit check had been done and my application had been accepted and I was on Pay Monthly.

So easy!!!

So I think I will port this afternoon! Will report back on that later.

Lucky you, no such joy for me. Another 60 minute wait in at Dick Smith yesterday, as I couldn't face wasting another hour of Harvey Norman's time.

The application process fell over twice, and in the end got declined, with no explanation given. After speaking to 4 people at 2 degrees while in at Dick Smith, it seems that its now a credit issue, because my flawless credit history of not even a late payment must not meet their criteria somehow (doesn't worry Telecom or Vodafone).

I was told I would receive a call today to sort it out - we are past half way and no call yet?
