Short Story:
Lost simcard in Rarotonga
Took almost two weeks for a blank microsim to be sent to me as first call was not logged.
Called to get number put on microsim and was told there was a technical difficulty and they would call me back shortly
Called back the next evening to be told it would take 3 days for them to get back to me.
My clients getting annoyed they cant contact me.

Long Story:
Was with Bellsouth a couple years before Vodafone aquired them. Stayed with Vodafone until a couple months ago.

Decided I liked the look of 2degrees as the new little guy in NZ and thought some of their rates and policy decisions looked great.

Ported my number, my wifes number, my mothers, brothers and a few friends and clients over.

Everything has been going great!

Then I went on my honeymoon at the end of November where I lost my sim (stupid of me I know).

Wednesday 8th December
When i arrived home on the 8th December I went straight to Dick Smith Electronics, purchased a new micro sim and then called 2 degrees to get my number put on it. Turns out I needed a new blank microsim, one with no number attached as it is not possible for them to put a number on a sim card that has already had one assigned to it. This in itself is weird because when I purchased my first sim which had a number on it I had my 021 ported over and attached to that sim card (which already had a 2degrees number on it).

Anyhow so after their explanation of "its not possible to do such a thing, you need a blank micro sim" they told me they could send me out one.

Problem was I kinda needed it that day so they pointed me to a 2degrees mobile shop that should have one. I went to the Westgate Mail 2degrees shop where they said they had no micro sims at all let alone blank ones. The staff called the 2degrees helpline and asked some questions before giving them my address to send the microsim to. I know how the conversation went as they had the support staff on speaker phone for that part of the call.

Tuesday 14th December
Still no sim card. Called and there was no record of me calling on the 8th December and no sim in the queue to be sent out. So they then said they would send me a sim out for the second time and I should recieve it within 48 hours.

Thursday 16th December
I called back to be told it had not even been sent yet. By this time I am starting to get very annoyed. Was told call center manager was going to personally go send it that day.

Monday 20th December
I get home to find two blank microsims arrived via courier in two separate courier bags.

Tuesday 21st December
I call 2degrees and ask for my number to be added to the blank sim card. I was informed it was done and I could now use my sim and my number. In my wisdom I asked him to wait while I check. Was not working. He rechecked things and it turns out the job is in a queue. Puts me on hold and finds out their "systems are down" and he would call me back.

Wednesday 22nd December
I call back myself in the evening as I had not been home to receive any calls and was then informed it will take 3 days for my call to be returned as my issue was in a queue.

So, two weeks later I have two blank micro sims and no number. On top of that I have clients emailing me asking how to get ahold of me as they cant get through to my cell and asking if I had changed numbers. In the tech world this is kinda embarrassing and costly. Up until this I had been very impressed and sold my clients into the move only to have eg on my face now a simple number attachment cant be made.

On top of all this I had planned to set up my family members all on plans but had to get numbers etc ported first I was told. This is now probably not going to happen unless somehow 2degrees pull their head out of their bum and escalate my issue and have it solved and working by tomorrow lunch time. At this time I will be porting all out numbers again, this time to telecom. Sure they have other issues like no online instant top up system etc but atl east I can make calls and have my clients call my number and actually get through to me!

/rant

Anyway we will see what happens tomorrow and I will report back to anybody reading this. Anybody else had this issue?

How long have you had to wait to get your number onto a new sim with 2degress (or any other network)? Interested in your feedback

Ah damn dude (I am sure you remember me from Vodafone back in the day) - Vodafone usually have MicroSims in stock, and so do Telecom. 2 Degrees are a bit different but I am sure they should be able to do the swap in their stores.

Usually if you phone up 2degrees you get some nice chap who will swap you straight over. Hopefully this get's sorted out for you tomorrow.

Yep i remember ya. Still working at one of the VF stores?

Dick Smith have Microsims in store for 2Degrees but apparently I needed a blank microsim as they could not put my number onto a sim that already had one. Thats where all the drama started, trying to get a blank microsim.

Nah not working at Vodafone anymore, doing server work at Unleash - I am pretty sure that you can just grab a sim and get your number "ported" to it. Just phone up the helpdesk to check anyway.

Or I am sure one of the 2degrees Gurus on this forum will answer shortly.

As per the original post I have called their helpdesk and even after I finally got my microsim they are failing at getting my number onto the blank sim. I will go see telecom tomorrow if it is not sorted and port my number to them. At least it should only take a few hours not a few more days. I was really hoping 2degrees was gonna work out too!

I ended up getting quite angry at the call center guy taking my frustration out on him because he would not escalate my issue, and could not give me any answers other than It usually takes about 3 days for them to get back to me because of their queues.

Did you consider just getting a normal blank sim from warehouse stationary and cutting it down to size?

See man this is why you need to live in the cloud!

I confess until today I've been living in the fixed number world and I agree it's tragic if you loose your phone/sim/what ever...

Sure, move away from 2D and find that these problems follow you to the next provider or different ones.

Personally I think we all need to live in the cloud so we can become provider and device independent.

For my part I have a 'local' (and I now use that term very loosely) Christchurch number and I can make it ring anywhere I like.

If I loose my phone or find my self stranded without one then I just light up some new hardware, put in the user and password details and I'm alive again.

We've been doing this stuff with email and domain names for a decade and a half now... why are we still tieing our phone calls to a single device and then crying like a baby when it drops in the water while you're on your yacht?!

Bingo, yes I thought of that. But each time I was assured it would not be long for the micro sim to arrive. On monday I actually went into warehouse stationary and got a blank normal sim for just that purpose. When i got home that evening the blank micro sims had arrived

Even once my microsim arrived they still have not put my number onto the sim.

Regardless, the poor service, contradictory statements made by different call center ops and the lack of ability to just get a simple job done is annoying and surely embarrassing for them and myself.

I have told many people about how great 2degress has been with simple systems for top ups etc, easy to use, easy to port my number and the dozen others I have helped do the same.

Now I am venting about their ferk ups too.

Actually I use Xnet voip and run my Asterisk server which I can receive calls via anywhere in the world as long as I have a sip phone (software or hardware) handy.

Kinda there....

Legend.  Thanks for posting an abridged version, so much quicker to see what the issue is, instead of reading a massively long post.

Wish everyone did this :/

Sorry to hear about the troubles you've been experiencing. It sounds as though the number transfer process onto the new blank SIM hasn't gone according to plan so it has been sent through to our technical team.

If you can please PM me your number and I'll chase them up to see what the hold up is.

Quick question, why could 2degrees not just forward your calls to a temporary number on a temporary SIM until they get this properly sorted?

Well with one hour to go until swapping to TC the person in this forum from 2degrees had my number ported to my second blank microsim and it is now working.
Thank you for your help.
I just wonder why it took a rant on the forums to get my number working again over 2 weeks after first trying.
Thanks again fro the help, hope it gets better from here on.

As far as I am concerned thank you 2 Degrees and long live the competition. They have certainly dropped my mobile bill.
