We live in Takapuna and my wife is looking at moving from Telecom to 2degrees to save some money, she was in the Shore City Telecom store as she needed a new SIM, and mentioned to the guy serving her that she was looking at moving.

He told her that 2degrees' coverage on the North Shore isn't the greatest and there are a few dead spots. I told her that he was probably trying to scare her into staying, but she reckons he was being genuine, even telling her he wasn't trying to get her to stay and suggesting she buy a 2degrees SIM and test it out for herself on prepay before making the switch.

I've not heard of any obvious dead spots on the North Shore, can any 2degrees users living over this way confirm the existance of these alleged dead spots?!

Ive used my 2D connection all over the Nth Shore with no issues so far..... if the Telecom guy is convinced of the dead spots, ask him for exact locations.....

East, just go into any basement or building with a thick wall.. You will get poor 3G from VF or 2D... Dead spots are everywhere for all networks.

However just because they may have once had a dead spot does not mean that they have not optimized their network or added in more sites since.

I wouldn't count on what he said on that!!!

Every network has its own dead spot!!! even Vodafone has one!!! a prominent location is at the intersection of Mokia Road and Chelsea View Road... everytime i come out from Chelsea View Drive turning right to Mokia Road, I would definitely get cut off!!!

2 Degree has been quite steady!!! but sometimes has to worry about whether the message has been actually delieved!

My GF used to live in Spinella Drive, Glenfield, could never hold a phone conversation while driving past the park, would always cut off no matter what VF handset I used. Things may have changed now but that it the only black spot I've ever experienced myself.

Im just off Spinella and it use to be shocking, but is fine now.

Im just off Spinella and it use to be shocking, but is fine now.

Your not far from me 3 minute drive

And correct a new coverage cell was put up by the Mobil at the top of James street a while back

I'm in Beach Haven and haven't noticed any problems over here yet (only been on 2d a week but I've been driving round a fair bit). Funnily enough the 3G coverage seems to be a bit better than Vodafone up in Long Bay where my Dad lives, he's in a terrible reception hole but my 2d phone gets 3G there no trouble.

There are several places I have had problems on 2degrees, VF was no better and telecom was spotty

Balmain Rd, Standing outside holding the handset up would get a whiff of VF 2g, no 3g, and 2 degrees was only slightly better.

Also down rosecamp I found myself without 3g last week on 2 degrees. The 2 degrees 3g coverage is very different to vodafones one, some places that get no VF3g have great 2 degrees and vice versa.

Just try it, you can always change back if its bad for you, but there is no overall problems with the coverage IME compared to vodafone, its just different places.
