I think I've mentioned on here before I'm going to Christchurch on the 11th of January, and I'm just getting the last few things organised. I'm going to get the 1GB broadband zone Mobile Broadband Zone data pack for my trip because my mate and I just want to be able to upload a few pictures to Facebook and Flickr for friends and family, and send emails and stuff like that. I had a look at the coverage map for Christchurch, and the first place I'm staying at is right next to the CBD so I know its covered, but the other place (on Mt. Pleasant) I'm not so sure about. Mt. Pleasant is right on the edge of the coverage map, So I just wanted to confirm with someone from 2degrees or another GZ'er if its deffo. in the coverage area.

Thanks in advance. and if someone from 2degrees wants the address if it helps get a more precise answer, I can PM them the address.

I can't really help you directly, but maybe if you added something like 'Mt. Pleasant, Christchurch' in the title you might be more likely to get a reply from someone who lives there, and can confirm.

It would be nice if 2degrees had some searchable coverage maps, like Vodafone and Telecom do, or failing that, some way to zoom in more on the maps they have now.

Yeh I was looking for a more accurate map but they only have the blue ones which are alright if you're not on the boarder but the house is fairly close so I just want to be double double sure. Lol. Telecom is fairly expensive for MBB and so is every other provider pretty much. I could just get KOL dial up. hahaha. $10 for unlimited aint bad

Does 2D use Vodas MBB network down here in ChCh? If so, can you try their coverage map?

Oh and an early welcome to ChCh, bring a cut lunch in case the power goes out, and an umbrella to keep the falling debris off yerr lunch. On a serious note, our aftershocks have gone strangely quiet after the 28 or so on Boxing Day.

2d use their own network where available, otherwise it roams on VF.

My brother lives in Mt Pleasant and he is in the MBB zone. Uses their data packs too.

Thank you so much BarTender, I looked through and the map shows their should be a 3G tower for 2Degrees a few hundred meters from his house. Thats awesome you went through all the effort to put those on the map and stuff. Cheers

And thanks for the welcome TDGeek :D maybe since all the aftershocks have been quiet since the big ones on boxing day it might mean a big one is ready? Hope its not big, I wouldnt mind experiencing a little one but any more and your town will be flat as a pancake. :(

OT. I still don't see how they worked out that the boxing day one was an aftershock as it followed other earthquakes around the Pacific rim and I believe was located in a different part under CHCH.. Sounds to me like a new one..

At least the EQC is treating it as a new earthquake and allowing claims.

From aftershock wiki: "Aftershocks are smaller earthquakes formed as the crust around the displaced fault plane adjusts to the effects of the main shock." So since that aftershock was under the CBD (it was wasn't it? correct me if I'm wrong) its just the earth moving to fill the fault or whatever. Also learnt from that article that if an aftershock is bigger than the first shock, the first shock is called a fore-shock. Never heard of it before.

They do BUT if you're roaming on vodafone, you switch from the 2ds mobile broadband data packs to the "national" one..
