Lots of people are having line faults due to the rainy weather. Best to contact the helpdesk and get your line checked out.

Agree, went from crap when I signed up, to great (15Mb down) now my downloads speeds have been getting worse, with my downstream speedtest hitting under 1Mbps tonight at 10PM.

Have used the online form to send in 3 emails now and no reply.

Telecom is starting to look mighty attractive.

ADSL trained at 16Mbps, no major loss on the Line, no disconnections outside of deliberate router reboots for over a month. My line is fine.

Ive been getting appalling international lately. Its not my line either as ive get reasonable speeds in NZ mostly. here are 2 tests done back to back, one to LA(https://www.speedtest.net/result/1135648966.png) and one to Auckland(https://www.speedtest.net/result/1135648516.png). 700k international is pretty poor and thats the best ive had all night. I have had results as low as 300k

well, new highs today - 0.5Mbps down and 0.4Mbps up on speedtest.

Apparently my emails have been replied to but I have yet to see anything. At least I am getting a response on twitter!

Telecom have just launched Total Home with a 60GB Cap for NZ$125 a month, which is $20 less than Orcon with a 40Gb cap, so that made my decision a LOT easier.

On their purple 'naked dsl' plan, been abysmal for the last couple of months now. Even internet banking times out (which is weird given I would have thought its a local site). Tried updating the PS3 firmware via internet and it kept timing out - took me a week to get a stable enough connection. Right now i'm trying to update the 'samsung kies' software for syncing my phone - on the fifth retry now as the connection keeps dropping. Its been running for over half an hour and its only downloaded 12MB. Been tempted to call customer support but i'd say its a complete waste of time given what i've read on here. TBH as soon as a comparable plan comes out from a competitor (currently paying 105 for 50GB, no phone) i'm walking, would advise anyone else to do the same, this has been going on for MONTHS.

This has been an ongoing concern more recently as early as September 2010.

However, this performance profile has existed with Orcon since around May 2008 (from memory, and personal experience!) and has no real pattern.  It just goes bad and stays bad for many, many weeks at a time. months even.

Check out other ISP's for reputation of consistency is the best advice anyone has ever given here.  Paying a little more is often a small sacrifice to make for quality (and sanity!).

Have signed up with Telecom on the phone.

You get the option of overuse charges ($2/GB apparently) or slowdown on overuse.

Choice of Interleaving on or off.

$60.55 charge for reconnecting phone.

If you sign up for a 12 month contract you get free install and a Wireless Modem, with a $199 penalty for breaking contract.

If you opt for No Contract it's $99 install.

I am really dissapointed. I really wanted Orcon to work out and I had high hopes.

Only issue I have is that Google seems to vanish off the planet of an evening at random times. Otherwise speed etc seems good.

Can be browsing Google Maps etc and then it times out - have to wait 5mins, then it comes back to life. Havent had a chance to do a trace yet to see where its failing, might try it tonight.

It Sounds to me like a cabinet may have been installed in your area and you have not yet been switched over to it? What area are you in?

Have you checked your line stats? Do you know what your line stats were before your performance degraded?
(its usually very helpful to know what line stats you WERE getting so when something goes wrong you can easily point it out)
e.g. my old connection speed was 6mbps. It dropped down to about 2mbps. I contacted orcon and told them basically exactly that. They got me to submit the required information, identified the problem was a new cabinet installed in the area. They switched me over to it. Now i sync at around 20mbps.

I must say, I think you should give them a call. They have always been very helpful (and answer their phone quickly!) when I have called them.
