Hi, I contacted Orcon to get a Service Delivery point and was told I couldn't get one as they are on trial. I then contacted Chorus and was told to talk to Orcon, who had told me no. I thought they would be out by now, any suggestions?
Hi there, We can provide this - I think as it's not that common you have caught one of the residential team on the hop. If you can message me some contact details, one of the business sales team can contact you. Cheers, Quentin
networkn: So if you already have a properly installed filtered jackpoint (No need for filters elsewhere) a SDP won't help at all?
It won't make your internet any faster or stable. That's the job of the master splitter that is also the main purpose of the SDP.
Have a read my blog post if you want to see what the SDP actually does. if you already have a master splitter the only benefit a SDP will offer is an easier move to CPE based VoIP in the future.
Yep, as Steve says, the SDP is simply a VDLS2 filter in a box with some RJ45 keystone connectors, the end result with regards to xDSL performance is no diff to a normal master filter install.
As someone who has had some engineering involvement with its design I can assure you this is the case.
Well finally got the Sdp installed at least I hope so as I wasn't here due to the Chorus guy being 4 hours late. I had 5Mb speed before the Sdp and after it being installed I have 5Mb exactly the same. I hoped it might of increased as I have 9 phone points in the house. Here is a screen shot of my stats
Slightly disappointing, maybe thats the best you get in Mt Eden
44dB of downstream line attenuation is the equivalent of approximately 3km of cable between your place and the exchange/cabinet.
Assuming there is not some line issue causing the high attenuation then you are not going to see better than the current rate unless you move house or a cabinet is installed closer to you.
Hopefully your area is on the schedule for a cabinet to deployed, cabinets are being rolled out to reduce the line distance to <2km (ideally <1km) in order to get >80% of houses to get >10Mbit downstream line rate.
You can see from that your area is scheduled to get a cabinet this year should be done by June. You should see a dramatic increase in line rate after they are done.
Can anyone advise me why I didn't get more speed for the service point install? Much appreciated
As I said in my first post in this thread, the SDP and a central filter install the the identical solution, just a different packaging, so why would anything change.
As Ragnor says, once your over 40odd dB of downstream attenuation is all downhill not much can fix you speed other than a reduction in line length (which = attention), sounds like that will happen in a couple of months and you should see speeds of 17-18Mb/s based on the fact that your within the VDSL2 area of cabinet MOD/E.
