Hi All,

The Orcon Best Deal Ever mailer arrived in my letterbox this week. Not bad - $70/month for landline and 30GB FS/FS broadband.

Just wondering if anyone can post speedtest results for Auckland CBD - especially at night. On my current provider I'm getting 1.5Mb at night, down from 13Mb during the day.

If Orcon can supply a better speed - and theoretically they should as they have their own equipment in the exchange - then now would be a good time for me to switch isps.

Any help would be greratly appreciated.

cheers

I'm looking at broadband options right now in Auckland CBD, so would Orcon be recommended?

I would/might recommend telstra clear because of their fibre and total packages but i know they're not cheap!

Well initially I was a bit hesitant to sign on to a 12 month contract as part of the "Best Deal Ever" offer, however I spent a few days talking with the Orcon crew and settled on a reasonable compromise.

Basically I signed up to their standard silver plan (landline, FS/FS, 15GB cap) for $80 per month, which importantly is contract free, and I have till 31/3/11 to evaluate the service, if I'm happy then they'll switch me over to the $70 plan.

So far speeds are excellent: getting constant 18.5Mbps / 0.86Mbps results on speedtest even at peak night periods so all in all a far superior experience compared to the old ISP.

Good point! I just checked and realised that fibre's only for buisnesses at the moment. My bad. On the other hand, I'm using Orcon in Newmarket and it's quite good. Sometimes it can be slow during peak hours but no complaints here!

Chris
