Has anyone developed a system that can send sms using 2degrees from a web app via gsm modem? Is this possible or legal?

There are lots of apps that do this. NowSMS pops to mind as the first one.

Hi, you can send SMS using the software on the 2degrees USB modem. Other than that we do not support any 3rd party web SMS apps.

Any linux alternative for nowsms? I thought of doing this for my final project as I'm studying Bachelor of Computing Systems. That's why I'm asking anyone who have done this kind of project using LAMP + gsm modem + 2degrees.

@2degreesCare can the software on 2degrees usb modem be installed in Linux?

Thanks in advance

If you have a Nokia Phone you can use http://www.gnokii.org/ to send sms's from your Cellphone connected via a serial port.

As sending SMS's is just a set of AT Commands if you have a serial based connection to most phones you can usually send SMS's

Hi, I can send you instructions on how to get the modem to work on Linux via email, however we're unable to support it any further as Linux is not officially supported.

Can you PM me and I'll send the pdf to you via email.

Cheers

Check out: smslib.org and smsj.sourceforge.net

I've had quite a lot of success with smslib, but if you want to send a lot of SMS messages then you should talk to the carriers and work out talking SMPP to them rather than using your datacard.
