My wife is getting Cd messages on VF but I'm not on 2Deg.

How's it being done?  How does the network know which phones to send to?

Am I meant to have updated my profile on the 2Deg web site with address details?

D

A system has been set up to send information via text to everyone in chch. My wife's already had a few msgs on her VF mobile. But I haven't seen any. I'm wondering if it's not operational on 2Deg, or has my phone been left out? How many other 2Deg custs aren't getting the messages?

Why can't you post the word ' civil defence '

Are you going into the CBD?

No.  Does that make a difference?

I haven't been approached about it. We are in contact with all sorts of agencies though.

Are you in the CBD or an area without power? I heard they were being sent to users in specific areas.

'CBD' - no.
'area' - patchy.  I have water, power, etc, but parts of the suburb still have issues.

Though I think some people have sort of missed the point?...  my wife is getting the text messages on her VF mobile and I'm not on my 2Deg mobile.

So I was left wondering if there's a problem with the messages going out to 2Deg mobiles?  Or was it just me that wasn't getting the messages for some reason?

I know why the messages are coming - we saw that on TV.  Bob told us.

I also know that there was an issue with intercarrier txt on the 22nd, so I'm not ruling out issues now, but instead I'm just asking if others know. :)

Seems I'm not the only one asking this question.

Thanks for the feed back Johnr.

Can you explain why my wife is getting messages but I'm not?

She's on VF and I'm on 2Deg.

I would say your Wife has traveled into the CBD and you have not

Can't you just read your Wife's SMS?

I am on 2 degrees and haven't left Sumner for the last 2-3 days. I started receiving the messages yesterday I think - have probably received 3-4 so far.

No.  I've been closer to the CBD than she has, but she hasn't been anywhere near there.

I think that misses my point.  Sure, I can read her phone, but what about the people who only have 2Deg phones?

Do we all have to head out and pick up a T.nz, VF.nz and 2Deg phone just so we can get the messages that only hit some networks and not others?

I've just been watching Bob on the TV and he says there's a system with important messages... cool, then I see it's not working as I sort of expected, so I'm trying to understand what it is and how it's meant to be working.

I'd say she would have used her phone within an affected area during a particular period.
As to why as a vf customer she would be getting a civil defence message from 2d - I'm not sure - perhaps she made a 111 call via the 2d network because it was the only network available at that particular time to route the call???
In any case it really doesn't matter, the message is more important than how it was delivered

Ok, that just wouldn't make any sense to me at all.

Shouldn't the message delivery be based on the phones current actual location.

Are all the 70,000 people who left the city in the past 9 days getting messages and the 50,000 that have come in are missing out?

Toiletduck:  In any case it really doesn't matter, the message is more important than how it was delivered

err?  I think you've missunderstood what I was saying.

I'm not talking about roaming issues.

I'm saying that the 2deg phone didn't get a message on it's network, while the VF phone did on it's network.

I don't think the phones are crossing networks.

I'd say the messages were intended to reach people without reliable power supply and so don't have good access to TV, radio, or the internet. Clearly you don't fall into that category, so all is working as it should. Maybe Vodafone cast the net a bit wider than 2degrees.
