I'm looking to update my plan as I've purchased a smartphone recently and the plans offered by 2degrees and telecom look quite good.

These should be sufficient for me per month - txt1000, 50mb data, 100 minutes and a bestmate for call spams

What plan would best suit me ? I would like to keep my 021 number as well.

I dont mind prepaid addons or plans... whichever is more cost efficient for me i suppose. Would like to keep it as low as possible $20-30 range

Just had a look at the following and they seem attractive:

Telecom XT
$12 per month
- 2x My Favourites to any Telecom mobile
- Text Anyone 2500 to any NZ network
- 120MB national 3G data
- Downside = no free weekend minutes like Vodafone is offering when you top up $20

2 Degrees
$29 per month
- 60 minutes to any NZ network
- 1000 txts to any NZ network
- 50MB local 3G data
- Downside is no "bestmates"

Vodafone
$22 per month - Txt2000 ($10), 50MB data ($6), 1x Bestmate ($6)
- 100 minutes for 2 weekends to Voda network
- 2000 txts to Voda network
- 50MB local 3G data

The Voda prepaid plan suits me really well, but Voda can do better as the pricing is almost similar to 2Degrees's $29 plan per month. I also wish 2degrees had more custom-made plans.

Opinions?

You will get 160 minutes if you join before 30th April

Yeah I noticed that when browsing their website but it will help if it includes a bestmate-like addon to call the missus

do you know how long do you speak to her over the phone in one month? if it is more than what 2degrees can offer, you better of with telecom or vodafone.

Depends really, could go like 5-7 hours per week.

That's my other concern. Can I still use my Voda number if I switch Telecom ?

I understand that you can still use your 021 number if you jump onto 2Degrees.

Cheers & regards

(you posted the samew thread in three forums. the other two will prob get locked so I am reposting my answer here)

you have the Telecom one wrong. the $12 per month is for each one of those things (my faves, txts, data), not all three together. so it would be $36 for them, and you don;t have any mins oter than my faves

also, the 2D one is not prepaid, only postpaid.

the only one you have accurate as far as I can see is the Voda one.

If you *are* willing to consider postpaid (no contract, 30 day plans only) like the 2D one you quoted then for XT 30 day plans check here
http://www.telecom.co.nz/mobile/yourmobile/plansandpricing

Don’t forget if you switch to 2D or XT then your missus will not be able to use best mate to call you.

If you switch to 2D she would need to switch also, and then use included mins to talk to her.

If you switched to XT, then she would need to switch too, then you could use the my faves to talk to each other

You can use 021. Do you know if your phone support XT network? 850 & 2100 UMTS (not GSM)

Nice. I'd be keen to try out the XT network - it's much much faster than voda & 2D yea ?

Not with an iPhone; they only support 7.2M, and all three networks have at least that.

iPad Pro 11" + iPhone 15 Pro Max + 2degrees 4tw!

it would depend more on where you are, how close you are to a celltower, how many other users on at the same time, whether the tower has fibre backhaul etc etc.

speeds should be at least decent on each network,  and tbh if you are only planniong to use 50MB of data per month then that shouldn't really be a major issue.

possibly, but, like I said, it would depend more on where you are, how close you are to a celltower, how many other users on at the same time, whether the tower has fibre backhaul etc etc.

Max upload on 2d is currently .3 mbs no matter how close to cell. On vf and Xt I have got up to 2.0 mbs and usually over 1.0 mbs.
