I am trying to use a push to talk app on my desire hd called Tikl. It requires the sim to have the number programmed to it. According to their FAQ my operator should be sort me out- http://info.tikl.mobi/tikl-frequently-asked-questions

Another issue I am having that could be related is that I am unable to link my number to the htcsense service.

The problem seems to be that I am not seeing my number in the phone. Why?

For me: Settings > About Phone > Phone Identity > Phone number > Unknown

I tried calling 2degrees but the person wasn't of much help. Is this some feature not supported by 2degrees?

Hi nemac -welcome to geekzone,
Ok,
My phone is an HTC Legend HTC sense, 2.2 etc
My SIM has been programmed - it was a blank SIM that had my number "put" onto it when I had handset issues with my old phone. I can see my phone number in the menu field as expected.

Getting a "preprogrammed" Sim and putting it in my phone reveals the number WASN'T there in the About Phone - as experienced by you.

So to answer your question,
Go to Warehouse Stationery (or to a 2degrees store) and ask for a BLANK SIM quoting reference number 1254315 (which I took the liberty of lodging for you). This will be zero cost to you - other the time and effort to get the BLANK SIM.

Then call 200 or more preferably 0800 022022 from a landline and ask if you can have a sim swap conducted for you. You will need to quote YOUR phone number and the 18digit number that is on the blank SIM and they will be able to program the number onto the blank SIM over the phone. Your credit will also transfer

Note: Make sure you copy any contacts that you may have stored on the SIM onto your phone as the SIM copy process renders the old SIM unusable.

I'd be interested to know of your experiences with Tikl.
Regards
Si

on my nexus s setting >> call setting >> additional setting >> my phone number

you can set your phone number there and the messaging will show your photo if you set up your photo on contact already.

Otherwise find an old phone (Motorolas seem to do it) that will let you change the number stored on the SIM. There's another thread about it on here somewhere, related to getting your picture for Me in the messaging app.

You can only program a SIM number into the SIM card with an android phone if you run cyanogen mod, stock roms will not work.

I used my old Sony Erricsson W880i to change the contact number on the sim card

Alternatively I know that iPhone can also program the number, and most older nokia phones can also do it.

ALSO:

I broke my old SIM card, so picked up a blank SIM then had my old number transfered onto the new SIM.  When they did this they did not actually program the phone number into the SIM (It was left blank, like yours).  So in the process of transfering your number they may not actually store the number in the sim card (as was my experience)
