I'm down in the SI visiting some relatives, who are with Slingshot for their internet. I'm trying to help them fix a few minor issues but am getting a little stuck. Rather than spending forever waiting on hold to their helpdesk, I thought I would ask here as I'm sure some people will be more in the know than me! They live in a rural area, about 2 k's from the exchange, but their speeds aren't too bad (as good as can be expected for an ADSL1 connection).

Issues:

(a) every time their phone rings or someone uses the phone, the DSL signal drops off, and has to reacquire. I'm not sure how to fix this one, as they have filters on all their jackpoints as far as I know.
(b) does the Slingshot website give a breakdown of usage (ie, sites visited), or is it just an amount of MB used presented on the page, as in how Xtra does it?
(c) their billing plan seems to start and end on the same day - which one would be correct?

Hoping someone can help.

Cheers :)

Forgot to add, the router is a Dynalink RTA1025W, which otherwise works really well. I was toying with the idea of updating their firmware - but thought I would ask here first before doing anything.

Hi, cannot comment on point 2 and 3, however DSL dropping off everytime the voice service changes state (ie goes on or off hook, or rings) then its a filtering issue. How many filters and phones/faxs/sky boxs are hanging across the line, more than 4 or 5 and lots of inline filters start to counteract their function.

I would recommend a central filter install, the cost of doing this will be much less than spending ages faffing with inline filters, and possibly still not fixing the issue.

Cyril

Thanks Cyril, I found an outlet without a filter, installed one and tested it and it seems to be working fine. Cheers for your help.

Now if someone from Slingshot can answer the other queries they'll be set! :)

The billing will end on a certain day, if you log in to the slingshot website it'll say "for the period ending"

At the end of that day the new period begins, eg for the period ending april 3rd, my billing rolls over at midnight(ish) on the 4th.

a.) Sounds like a filter issue, and by the looks of it you've resolved it.

b.) just per GB, excluding 0 rated stuff (isky, backflip)

c.) The billing date is the end of the day, i.e. the 18th of April means it ends at the end of the 18th of April, and the next one starts at midnight on the 19th of April (2011-04-19 00:00:00).

Edit: clarity around midnight
