I have a Telecom T-stick (MF626) which I've inserted a 2degrees SIM into. On my iMac running Snow Leopard and also on my mother-in-law's eMac running Tiger, the connection manager starts and then immediately crashes. If I take the 2deg SIM out and reinsert the modem, the connection manager starts but does not crash.

I am hoping to hear from 2degrees / T-stick / Mac owners who can shed any light on this. I'm wondering if it's just because there is no credit on the SIM currently -- it seems odd that credit would cause it to crash but I don't want to top it up only to find that it still won't work without me buying a new USB modem.

The 2deg website seems to suggest that it should just work with a Telecom T-stick no problems.

Cheers

Steve

Hi,

Just confirming you are running the Telecom software and the latest version that came with the T-stick ? I am running the exact same combo at home.

T-stick, Mac OSX, 2degrees sim....

Oh and also you have the latest version of OSX, run Software Update and just make sure you have updated everything ....

I use the above setup on a Mac Book and Have better performance with the Telecom software than i did with the 2degrees software as that seemed to crash after about 12hrs of being connected to the usb port.

Yup, running the Telecom version and using the software that self-installs when you insert the T-Stick. Is yours the exact same model of T-Stick? (MF626)? Should be on the white sticker on the back. Also do you happen to know what happens when the SIM is out of credit? I am hoping that that is why it crashed, because it has no credit. It did seem to get to the point where it was connecting before it crashed.

I have a similar problem. Insert 2 degress sim into t-stick and run telecom connection manager downloaded from internet last night and keeps crashing. Insert XT sim and works fine.

The frustrating thing is that ZTE doesn't provide any direct customer support - all references to support on their website points you to contacting your provider. 2degrees' website says the T-Stick should just work, and I doubt that Telecom would want to know about issues with 2degrees SIMs. I guess calling 2degrees might be the next step but I anticipate being given the run around. Any 2degrees staff on here that can help?

Hmm I can't try this right now because I left the T-Stick at my mother-in-law's place but I just found this post on Whirlpool and it contains a possible solution. You want to give it a go Phil2?

Hi, if the SIM is out of credit it should automatically try to connect you to the Your 2degrees site to top-up, which is a free connection.  The fact that it's happening on your mum-in-laws suggest the settings are not being saved to the SIM.  Before you go and get a free blank SIM from your nearest Warehouse Stationery or 2degrees store (http://www.2degreesmobile.co.nz/storelocator) try below -

You should be able to connect via the Telecom Connection Manager APN but you might want to try adding a new APN with 'Config filename' as 'Internet' and the 'Dial number' is *99#.

Check 'Obtain APN address automatically' is selected, PDP is 'IP', Authentication Mode' 'PAP' and 'Obtain PDP address automatically' is on.

Click on the new 'Internet' APN and Automatically Connect To the Internet' is selected and click on 'Apply'.

If it's still failing try re-installing the connection manager software or try a SIM swap.  Call 0800 022022 to get the number moved over to the blank SIM.

Hope this helps.
