So, i'm thinking of switching to Orcon's Best Deal Ever, given that i'm on an Exchange that Orcon has unbundled. (Hamilton Central)

I'd just like to know, can I get Interleaving turned off and what are peoples ping times like?
(Mostly re FPS gaming)

Interleaving is off by default. There's an old post on their website that says for Orcon+ customers (unbundled people) it is turned on, but I confirmed when I changed over to them last week that it is definitely off by default.

I used to be with Telecom. With them, to the Vodafone Auckland server it would be about 11ms usually and about 145ms to Los Angeles. On Orcon its generally been 18ms and the same (as Telecom) to LA.

I got changed over last week and I'm getting 16ms-22ms. The best I ever got over the last 3 years with Vodafone was 20ms.

I'm in Auckland

How do you tell whether it's off? From my modem status, it says interleave depth 1..

rdjacobs: can you please tell me what server do you ping to get 30ms in Sydney? I'll give it a go and see what sort of ping I get.

hey I just test it on speedtest.net to the sydney server, and all games I play battlefield etc that are played on aussie servers I get 27-30ms pings and los angeles game servers around 125-135ms.

not sure how to tell if its off, I just ask them and they said it was.

Sorry for being a noob but:

Got a confirmation email from Orcon a few days ago that my broadband will be connected by tomorrow (thursday).
I signed up for the BestDealEver plan

THey included some details, one of which is this --->   type :  Orcon@Home+ Bronze

Now does that mean i'm on the + network ? (ADSL2+ ??)

Or does the plus means AND (orcon@home and bronze ) , because i've seen both Bronze and Bronze+

Oh and once they connect me, if its indeed ADSL2+ , Does my modem automatically switch to using ADSL2+ instead of ADSL1 ? Do I have to do anything besides changing the username n password to the Orcon account ?  (modem is adsl2+ capable)

Cheers guys.

Yes, the best deal ever is only available on the Orcon+ network. (Which is Orcons own gear in the exchange + their own backhaul)

1. You are on Orcon+ (fed from the Orcon LLU equipment at the Massey exchange)

2. You should've been on the 5Gb + 25Gb plan from the start of your contract, but for some reason you were placed on just the standard 5Gb one. I've adjusted your plan to the full 30Gb as of today. Keep an eye on your next bill (23rd May). If you get a charge for excess usage dated around 25th April, ring in and get this credited off your account (I've popped a note on your account to this effect, so whoever you speak to on the helpdesk will see what to do).

I just had Interleaving turned off (they had it done within 30 mins of me emailing them).
My connection speed went from 11k to 15k. Torrent download speed went from 1.2mbs to 1.5mbs, but didnt notice any improvement in my online gaming ping times (ingame ping meter)
