Just in case anybody missed it: http://www.2degreesmobile.co.nz/paymonthly/spendcontrol. You can set a hard limit on your pay monthly account and we won't let you accidentally go over it.

If you do need to go over, you can override it for the rest of the month and we will automatically begin enforcing it again next month.

Slightly off topic but with the cuts in termination rates and second plus second billing and BAK for SMS terminartion announced tomorrow by the Commerce Commission can 2D customers look forward to price reductions in voice and SMS pricing.

Awesome. Thanks for the heads up. Just enabled this on my 2degree's account.

As a business, they have no real reason too.

Thanks for letting us know, Salty. This will be a good insurance policy against racking up casual data charges if I forget to renew my data pack!

2D lobbied the Commerce Commission for years to cut termination rates on voice, second+second billing, SMS, and off/on net price discrimination so therefore they should pass on these rate cuts.

"
Mobile termination rates must come down today if 2degrees is to maintain, let alone drop, its prices, the carrier says.

The telco said it began pricing in expected termination rate cuts from August last year and could not afford to continue offering its calling and text packages if rates were not slashed.

Last month chief executive Eric Hertz told the Herald prices would not be reduced straight after the cuts.

This ran contrary to statements in December, when he said 2degrees could afford to cut prices if rates were lowered."

short answer:  No price drop because of MTR.

As can be seen by this graph released by the Commerce Commission last Friday mobile phone usage in New Zealand is low by international standards in fact as low as usage in third world countries.

It is low because it's bloody expensive.
