Hey, I'm on 2 degrees and looking to get a new phone. I've been currently using a nokia 5800XM (which I don't like particularly for a few reasons) but I'm finally gonna upgrade and need some pointers.

Has anyone used any of the above three phones on 2degrees? (iphone 4, HTC Desire HD or Samsung Galaxy S)
Do they work? How do you like the phones themselves?

In particular I'd like to know what the music playback is like for the Desire and Galaxy. I primarily got my nokia because I was foolish, and thought it would be neat to have a resistive touch screen phone that I could use for simple games and music, and I really don't like the music player on it and the app variety is terrible.

So I'm definitely going with an iOS or Android this time.

Importantly, are there any annoyances or disappointments you guys have had with any of those 3?

My husband has an iphone 4 on 2 degrees and it is faultless.

I use the ipod function if I'm in the car and I just turn it on and I don't need speakers other than the ones in the phone and I'm going deaf.

I love it.

The way I look at it is that Apple created the original. The others have copied it and not as well. If you want the best go iphone 4.

Had a Galaxy S on 2Degrees, now on a Galaxy S 2

Works well on 2degrees, switches to Vodafone(as do most phones) when no 2degrees cell is near it

Nothing wrong with a Galaxy S, only minor niggle is if you load it up with too many apps you can get "lag", that's fixed with a lag fix. But most people wont' notice any issues with "lag"

Music player, the Samsung one is fine, there are more ones available to download. Sound quality however is magnificent. You can get a even get a few equaliser apps and have a fiddle round with the settings. It's a wolfson dac which was found in the older iPods...which have better sound quality than the newer iPods.

That's probably the one thing I miss going to the Galaxy S 2, I don't think the Yamaha chip in my new phone is as good.

If you want good sound quality(same chip as the Galaxy S) another option is the Optimus X2 which 2Degrees have just started selling, which is dual core and should be getting an upgrade to 2.3 operating system soon

I have moved across the ditch. Now residing in Melbourne as a VOIP/Video Technical Trainer/Engineer.

i'm using a windows phone 7 (htc trophy) on 2degrees and its been great. about the same price as a galaxy, cheaper than iphone. music player is really good - someone just ripped of the wp7 style player for the android :-)

Have an iPhone on 2 Degrees and I love it. It does everything I need although in some places in Nevada and Arizona (Route 66) I had no service although my wifes $400 Sony EricsonT707 on 2 Degrees did. Hmmm.

iTunes has given me some grief but I really do love the phone.

no point going with iphone4 when iphone5 is around the corner.

One feature I use fairly often is the LED flash on my phone camera as a torch. I know the Desire has a flash, so I assume there'd be some app where it could be used as a torch. But the galaxy S doesn't.

Anyone that has an S, is the screen bright enough to read by?

(I suppose I should be asking this in the Samsung board)

Galaxy S no flash, Galaxy S II does have a flash.

Galaxy S no flash, Galaxy S II does have a flash.

The S II is a little out of my price range, though good god does it look nice.

Does that Optimus have a flash on the back of it?

Definitely, as long as there is a decent amount of light colouring on the display. Or there are apps which will display a white screen for that purpose (ie a torch). Not sure about battery usage of course but for brief periods it works fine (for reasonably close up lighting).

I am very jealous of anyone with the Galaxy S II, that Super AMOLED Plus screen looks incredible although I am not sold on the 4.3" size unless they can really shrink the bezel. I have the T-Mobile Vibrant (Galaxy S) and it's fantastic with Bionix-v firmware. The Samsung touchwiz interface is a bit rubbish so I have the stock Android version. I find even this phone is slightly too big, and I have large hands. HTC Sensation looks interesting but I am really after a slideout keyboard on my next phone (and NFC!)

You'd be better looking at the HTC Incredible S rather than the desire HD, slightly smaller but newer and improved. The Galaxy S is coming up a year old now. The incredible is brand new and ships with 2.2, an update to 2.3 was made available earlier this month and further updates are likely to come in the future. The i9000 is unlikely to be getting any updates past 2.3.

As it happens, that's what I ended up buying after several reviews and trying out a friend's Incredible S.

My one is still being shipped, but I was really impressed with his.

I probably would have gone with the S II if I had the dough, but alas.
