Hi all,

The WiFi hotspot software has been successfully tested and we are now finalising the upgrade process. We expect to post upgrade details and notify users by June 10th.

Thanks 2Degrees!! :-)

A few queries.

What is the version number of this update?
B136CUSTC183?

Is this update moving the phone to Android 2.3 per chance?

I'm going to say this won't be the case. You'll see 2.3 appear on carriers like china unicom etc before it does on 2degrees, just like has been the case for this hotspot update.

Hi, the version number is CUSTC183D001.   This is not a change in the actual android version but just an update to enable the WiFi hotspot feature.

Cheers

So is it still using the old 'V100R001C00B135CUSTC183D001' ROM version, or is it a 2Degrees derivative of the new 'V100R001C00B136CUSTC183D001' ROM that has the WiFi tether update?

Thanks! Smile

Yay, it's here. Downloading now although I've had no notification but it's available through OTA update

Did you need to backup anything on your phone etc. I'll be very interested to hear how it goes and what the final firmware version is.

Have just downloaded update and have since lost the ability to connect via wifi at all let alone wifi tether :P

The actual update process is very easy, go t oonline updates and it then walks you through it, no backups required (but probably wise to do so :P) etc

Same happened to me: in Settings -> Wireless Networks, Wi-Fi shows "error" and cannot be checked.

Also it's been running extremely hot since the update.  I'm about to try installing the full b136 firmware from wiki.modaco.com/index.php/Huawei_Firmware_U8800 to see if it fixes the problem.

I wasn't using a custom bootloader, however the update process terminated early with an error, when it detected that I had previously modified image/cust_data/2Degrees/nz/prop/local.prop in the first (FAT) partition via violet-screen mode (in an attempt to disable the "you may use traffic" popup dialog). From what you say, that suggests to me that the problem I'm seeing is probably that the update process successfully updated the system partition, but didn't get as far as to update the bootloader before failing out.

Since the system partition has been updated, I see b136 in the phone settings, and I'm obviously not given the option to run the update again.  Is there anything that I can reasonably do to fix this other than fully reinstall using the image from huaweidevice.com?

I got a similar message, it seems to have still run the update regardless and now with the correct bootloader all is well..

For Sh#$ & Giggles i am running the image that allows overclocking to 1.8Ghz, on Quadrant I scored as below...

B133 @ 1Ghz = 1773
B136 @ 1Ghz = 1811
B136 @ 1.2Ghz = 1991
B136 @ 1.5Ghz = 2311

Its feels rather quick @ 1.5Ghz i must say lol
