With iTunes reordering to include a cloud component

Will the Snap Unmetered plans allow us to use this service? It would mean i no longer have to dual boot into windows to manage my music on my PC and can remain totally on Ubuntu.

Anyway, eagerly awaiting reply!

On a similar topic, is unmetered TVNZonDemand likely to continue, given that Orcon says it no longer can afford to?

possible of course, but I would say unlikely at this stage.

Unmetering sites or even plans is all well and good provided most people use only a little bit and keep the average low. The few high users can then be 'subsidised' by the majority of small users in the same way as an 'all you can eat' buffet relies on the fact that only a few people will actually consume vast quantities of food and most will only eat a relatively small amount.

Cloud looks to be massive usage for everybody since if everything is stored in the cloud then it will be constantly streaming.

IMHO plans such as this reflect the future of the internet. Local CDN's (such as Akamai in the case of Apple) mean that data costs for the ISP are minimal compared to the cost of international transit. Whether Cloud based products could offer this pricing model would depend entirely where the data was hosted.

In this case the data is in the States. New Zealand internet is a pain in the ass, its prone to slow bursts, huge pings and disconnections. However all this can be overlooked, the stoneage approach to plans cannot. Snap are to be applauded for their new plans, but i really want to see the modernization continue rather than choke

Ping times can't be fixed in NZ if contest is hosted overseas.

Slow burts show a possible ISP issue and disconnections (assuming you're on DSL) is almost certainly poor wiring inside your house. Both of these can be fixed.

Akamai nodes tend to be more cache's aswell like google GGC, I highly doubt iCloud will be available via anything but a "caching" node in NZ

Most problems are the result of previous solutions...

I live in Christchurch, quakes can disrupt and slow our net. At the moment some VoIP setting thing on Snap's end is choking our speed but their looking into it commendably

iCloud has the potential to be lots of data usage, but if the OTA updates in iOS5 do not wipe that type of data then the bulk download should only occur once for normal users.
