So. I landed in the UK about 6 hours ago.
Having turned my phone and data on I've been bombarded with alerts and requests to buy the roaming data packs.
The message coming from 2D reads:

"2degrees alert: The cost of data overseas is $2.50/MB. To save buy a Roaming Data Pack: $20/10MB, $75/50MB or $100/100MB val 30 days. Just test Buy ROAM and pack size..."

So I text the following to 233: "Buy roam 50"

I get a polite reply: "Thanks, you've subscribed to our 50MB Nat Data Pack..."!!!!!!!???????
WTF?????

The alert message is complete rubbish.
The roaming pack can only be purchased by texting Buy INT
I wonder how many people have done the same thing without realizing.
Already rang cs to demand money back.

Plus. Having later purchased the roaming pack (or international data as it's properly called) I am still bombarded with about 20 alerts about cost of roaming data in the past 2 hours.
WHEN WILL THIS STOP!!!!!

Always better to get a local SIM though. I am in the US and paying $25 for 500 MB for example...

Well.
Just got up.
Had my phone on using juice defender on a half hour schedule.
Got 26 alert emails about roaming data.

Mauricio, I do have a local sim but after all the whole point to mobile phones is just that, they should be globally mobile. And roaming packages have been trumpeted as a very big thing by 2nd, so you expect them to get it right. And they clearly haven't.

OK. As I was typing the alert text message got changed.
It now correctly says Buy INT.
I can't believe I am the only person who had this issue.

Still battling the alert text messages. Was initially told that it was because my international pack was running out, total absurt as I only used 3MB of it. Then was told to turn my phone off for 15 minutes as 2D are not recognizing those as received. Not sure whether to believe it but let's see.

Also. Roaming seems to be not working on my partner's ported number (from Voda). Cannot make any calls unless they terminate in NZ. Simply says call failed.

This is already logged with you guys (case 1559656).
But my issue was a complete fail.
I just spend 3 hours trying to sort it out and gave up.
Had all of my charges reversed and now my phone has a local Three UK simcard in.
Such a disappointment.

I've just been in Australia and you must have just got this sorted for me just in time, I only got the correctly worded message, however that was at 5:43PM.

Locally I had two fairly good options, Vodafone had a deal where I could get 500MB of data and unlimited calling to Vodafone numbers in AU and NZ for $39AU (inc sim), and some operator called Boost which would have given me 3GB for $40.

I believe there are whispers of roaming being looked at by the commerce commission, with the mobile operators unsurprisingly saying they would prefer market pressures to bring the price down over time.
