I had my own personal Vodafone number (previous prepay 10 digit number) on a work contract until recently when my employer ported this to 2degrees where I am now on one of the Business plans where we can talk as much as we like among each-other at work

Work is wanting us to use our mobile phones for more customer facing work, so I need to separate my person life from work, and the first step is to get my vodafone number back to Vodafone. Will also mean the Mrs can call me on best mate as before.

I've also got another 2degrees prepay sim card and have found a number I quite like

What steps do I need to take and in what order to:

1. Have my Vodafone number ported back to Vodafone prepay
2. Have my 2degrees contract transferred onto my 2degrees prepaid number

Vodafone in the Albany Mall have informed me that my Vodafone sim card would have been deactivated when my number was ported to 2degrees and that I need to purchase a new one, although they never said whether I need a special simswap card or a bog standard prepay one.

Can't comment on the proper process but I was just thinking the phone number system is so retarded, it would be a heck of a lot better if was like the domain name system.

Here is your issue you can only port an active number and when a port request happens it will close your account straight away on the 2D side

I would suggest (note: I'm not a business process expert!) 3 steps - first, get the prepay SIM with the number you like added to your business account. Second, have a transfer of ownership so that the connection with the Vodafone number is yours, as opposed to the business'.

And 3 - get your missus onto 2degrees. Failing that, now that the ported connection is yours once again you can port it back to Vodafone - but you will need to buy a new Vodafone SIM.

As the others have said, the first step is to get ownership of you number signed back over to you as at the moment your employer owns your "personal" number.

Thanks for all the comments guys, having a meeting today supposidly with someone today from 2degrees so will see if he can assist in getting the ownership sorted so I can get on with the porting.

Steve, I could just get another vodafone number, however I would like to keep my original number which I've had for 8 years. It may not be a great number but its mine and I want it back :)

Humm yeah I guess, but your boss owns that number now and when it's associated with another sim card your a little up the creek. You could always just ask your boss to cancel your current mobile plan and move that to a prepay contract (free blank sims are available at Warehouse stationary) and then add a new monthly account on.

Seems like it's all getting sorted (hopefully),

Basically either the current contract or another contract is being moved onto my 2degrees prepay number, and my current vodafone number/contract will be moved away from my employers account to my own account with 2degrees, Then I'll be free to perform the number port back to vodafone and I'll be all sorted.

man, what a mission and waste of time, I don't mind being on 2degrees, just wish I had been given a new 2degrees number from the start... however I get to take that up with my employer.

Yeah basically I follow the never put a personal number into a work scheme/account philosophy now, it's such a mission getting it back and half the time the employer wants to try and keep the number.

Viewsonic demo'd a dual sim (quadband GSM plus dualband UMTS 900/2100z HSPA on the first SIM, and quadband GSM on the second) android 2.2 based phone in February that should be out soon

If you port your number to a no term plan (i.e. motormouth) on Vodafone you get a free Sim, then you can drop it down to prepay and don't have to pay the $30 for a new prepay Sim.
