Hi guys

I got my mum a LG P500 a couple of months back, and it has been running with mobile data enabled 24/7 (50mb national data pack renews each month). It's from warehouse stationery, so it's not a parallel import.

In the past 2 weeks her mobile data connection has been dropping off after 1 or 2 days, and subsequently does not reconnect to the data network. (She's in Auckland)

The phone is set up to automatically use both HSDPA or 2G. (I've tried 2G only mode, with no difference). Toggling "Data enabled" on/off does not make the phone reconnect, only a reboot seems to help. I've tried removing the APN and retrieving the settings again, but that didn't help either.

As it was previously running fine, I'm wondering what would cause this behaviour. Having to restart the phone every day or every other day seems like a huge hassle just to keep the data connection running. And it's tough explaining such a thing to my mum, who's a technophobe.

No new apps have been installed, and no configuration settings have changed.

Any thoughts, help, or suggestions would be appreciated.

Can you tell us what firmaware it's running?

I've heard there's an update floating around for the p500.. She hasn't had it plugged into a PC and updated (only takes a coupla "ok" clicks)?

I think it's currently on 10b, which is what the LG updater installed. The phone's about 2 months old now, and one of the first things I did was check for updates.

Unless there's been a new release in the last couple of weeks, it should be on the latest firmware.

Yeah, I've read there's some issues with 10b (and other updates)

I stuck with 10a until I decided on a custom ROM... sorry, I am of no help here!

Thanks all the same :)

I've read that Gingerbread has already been rolled out to P500 users in Romania.

Still, the data connection behaved itself for more than 6 weeks - the disconnections / no reconnections have been a recent event.

Her googletalk is always signed in, so the connection should be "kept alive" so to speak.

I'm guessing each cell tower only allows a finite number of mobile data connections - I wonder if there's a lease time on each connected device.
