Seriously what is wrong with you guys?! It seems that every week you have a SMS issue.

Well, since you ask, we implemented a binary patch that was designed to fix one of those issues on the system that is responsible for routing messages. Unfortunately, it turned out not to work in a rather spectacular manner.

Issues like this are why we do changes at night.

Seems to me that I should give up on great value and go with the tried and trusted Telecom brand... XP? That never fails.

The problem isn't reproducible in the test environment. :(

By the way.... where do you keep your test site with 50 cell towers and 200,000 phones... I want to come visit...that would be a really cool warehouse to check out!!! We saw vodafones test site on the TV in their old ads... you know, the symphony thingo.

Humm Technology always has its faults and you are a new network considering vodafones base gsm network is 18 years old... But still when I miss important texts because your network is broken; I am not impressed.

Ah well give it another 2 years till your sorted. You would think that your network wouldn't be having these issues still.

It's an interesting question.

I'd be quite interested to know more about the fault and why it couldn't be tested better before going into production.

I wonder how much consumer expectation is driving down quality?

While it's obvious that I was joking about the warehouse with 200,000 phones, how do you test this stuff properly without just dropping it on the production system and hoping like mad you can roll it back quickly if it goes wrong?

I'd like someone to explain to me how:

* you get the best price for service
* highest wages for staff
* high returns for investors
* six 9's of up time
* robust test systems that 100% replicate the production platfrom

I can see how to get some of those things, but how do you pack all of them into the same package?

Why would you rely on something that is best effort? Maybe invest in phones on Telecom/Vodafone so you at least have a backup?

Prod is not 100% the same as Pre prod, It's very very very close

Plans are always in place for rollback and this is why changes are deployed when most people are asleep,

I suppose Don that everything you do is 100% always correct?? Give them a break. Software issues do happen in the real world that don't show up in the lab..
