I'm not sure whether that's a guess or based on inside information, but it sounds realistic to me. A network build doesn't happen overnight.

even queenstown has a denser network coverage than christchurch! and zero in dunners where the most students are - who would use tonnes of it in lectures!

If they could offer more for less of their regular national data then I would jump over from 2degrees. At the moment XT is faster and of higher quality than 2degrees in Dunedin (aka Vodafone).

Of course QTown has denser coverage than CHCH, it's way more compact oO

With Tauranga and Hamilton done, it would make sense to to Dunner's next, it has to be the next densest business region.

Searching the Radio Spectrum Management site for Two Degrees in Dunedin brings up 2 results, so they are beginning planning for towers. First they have to jump through the hoops to erect a tower (consents, public consultation etc) so I wouldn't expect them too soon.

Oh yeah, Vodafone's data via Roaming on 2D is poor.

Just done my export from RSM this morning and it sees to have a few new sites since Thursday last week. Including Dunedin. If it was anything like Tauranga / Hamilton I would expect to see the sites live within 3-6 months. But remember this is a extensive build from 2D, so they have a whole lot of new cellsites to commission. So it may take longer.. I'm not a 2D staffer so don't know anything apart form what is registered in RSM.

I suspect Queenstown has good coverage because of the amount of tourists, which in turn equals lots of roaming $ potential for 2 Degrees

I recall reading something in the news when 2degrees launched their network that Queenstown was coverable with an extremely small number of cellsites (2?), so why not do it. Esp with roaming tourists.

Wellington's is even worse (think of all the steep hills and valleys) and it has 2degrees coverage. So no, I don't think that's really a factor.
