I have only had a little time to test the Genius and so far the call waiting seems to not work correctly.
When on a call and a second call comes in you lose all sound of the original call. the phone just goes dead.
From the second callers end you get an interrupted tone but nothing else. I am not sure if it would go to voicemail have to test that.
There is little in manual about this other than you should press the R button which presumably will transfer you to the new incoming call. Have not tried this but interested in getting others feedback on call waiting.
Its all very well pressing the R button if you knew a call was there but as the call just disappears how the heck are you supposed to know there is a call coming in. Meanwhile the other end of the first call just ends up with nothing.
Interesting if you abandon the second call you get the first party back again if they haven't hung up in frustration
Surely it should allow you to continue your call and put a discreet tome on call to warn you of a second call coming in. Then you can choose to answer or not

I had this issue when first using Genius, all I did was restart the router, hasnt been a problem since, not that we get many conflicting calls to test it repeatedly with.

Can you confirm your using the Orcon provided handset when using the call waiting?  Also I'm keen to understand how your using call waiting so a break down of the flow would be great.

No I think I was using a secondary handset that is fully DECT compliant and supports call waiting. (Reason is the Genius handset was uncharged. For some reason when you connect the handset to the Genius it is not receiving a charge. I took the phone off the Genius phone and charged it separately. Need to look at why the connector is not transferring power to the handset cradle. But that is another story)  I will try again with the Genius handset when I get a chance
Basically I rang the House Phone from one cellphone and then once conversation was established I rang the number on a second cellphone. The minute the second phone started to ring the original call being received in house was blanked out and the recipient could not hear anything. As soon as they second call was canceled full voice access was restored to house phone.
Any suggestions?

We have developed and tested call waiting in great detail on the Orcon provided handsets and we have found no problems but when we tested some GAP supported handsets which the customer can buy from anyone (Not Orcon) we did noticed call waiting issues. It's pretty much outside our control but we will see If anything can be done.

Correct me if I am wrong but I seem to remember when signing up for Orcon I was told that they did not have any extra handsets. Are you saying they now do?

Orcon don't supply extra handsets. But you can buy any DECT compliant handsets from many stores and they work.

Obviously not if you read above they are saying that non Genius handsets may not work with things like call waiting

I can confirm that call waiting does not work when using the Genius handset. Same problem incoming calls cause the genius to go dead until the second call hangs up and then first call works again.

I have just done some more testing. using only the supplied Genius receiver, I have confirmed  Call Waiting does not work in the accepted sense. If you receive a call whilst you are on a call you phone blanks out. Both listening and talking are blocked. The first caller gets dead air.
However I have found that if you press the R button on the receiver it will switch to the second incoming call and you can have a conversation. Pressing R again takes you back to the first caller but of course its blanked out.

So we need to get several things done
1. When a call comes in whilst you are on phone it needs to impose a warning beep on top of your conversation.
2. It should not cut out the current call
3. If you choose not to answer the new call it should then divert to voice mail as normal
4. If you do choose to answer you should be able to go back and forth between calls as you wish just by pressing the R key

I found out about the R key by reading the handbook for genius Receiver on  Australian web site. I did not get a handbook for the receiver only got one for the base station.
Did anyone else get two handbooks one for each base station and receiver unit?

Anyone from Orcon able to help us with Call Waiting

Yes I left the filter because I do not have a plug that would accept the small RJ type plugs. Is the filter likely to cause problems

I have a separate adsl line from the street. used to have an ISDN circuit so used that for ADSL so it wont see any of the other items on phone circuit. I do have a MYSKY plugged into the phone circuit it but as it wont work with naked dsl I can unplug that. I will get some new phone cable and remove the filter if you think that would help
