Since its flat rate with the few dollar addon, I am using youtube a lot more than in the past.

But, its performing noway near as well as I would expect. On slingshot if the cache did its thing there was never a question of if it would play right thru or not, the cache made it always work - both 720 and 1080.

But here, now, I am having to pause things and let them buffer - not as bad as the bad times on slingshot when the cache didnt work, but certainly not click and play. Looking at the transfer its all coming from o-o.preferred.snap-chc1.v13.lscache1.c.youtube.com (this time) which when I ping is 26ms away, so clearly on network, but just am not seeing the grey bar leap ahead of playback. More often then not playback will catchup and I am stuck watching buffering :( Since it is all coming from on network and I am not being charged for it, then clearly me using my own proper DNS server isnt causing it to go to a distant mirror.

How does it perform for everyone else? Can you just choose 1080 on any old vid when fullscreening it and have it work how you would expect?

im finding it rather slow it should be just about instant buffering seeing the server is cached and within new zealand.

It was ok later on in the evening.

Earlier on there was massive delays in even getting the video info, and with that longstanding youtube bug where if you fullscreen it before it has the maximum resolution, it renders it at a low res even from the 1080 one its quite annoying. Perhaps the mirror is just getting hammered since I guess anyone with a clue adds the $2 youtube addon?

I too have the unlimited Youtube Add on with SNAP ADSL2+ at 14Mbps DS. None of my Youtube videos ever buffer, even at 1080p. I think it depends on your connection and your speeds.

Could be badly mistaken here, but doesn't the first person in NZ to view a certain video need to go through all the download process and thereafter everyone else gets the cached fast version of the same video?
