I am on monthly post-pay contract and get the 50Mb data pack each month. For a short period I will need extra data and wonder if I buy the 1Gb pack just once will it try to autorenew when I finally finish using it and will it interfere with my normal monthly 50Mb pack

If you buy the 1GB pack on pay monthly it will normally renew monthly on your bill day. But, if you stop it immediately after buying it, it will not.

Thanks what I really wanted was the hotspot modem but cannot get one at moment (see earlier question) I will keep looking but if not will have to resort to buying a 1gb pack and using the hostspot on my phone.

The 1GB data pack (and other larger data packs) only apply where you are directly using 2degrees access to the Net. If you're being carried over Vodafone, then you're on the more expensive "national" datapacks. Direct 2Degrees data provision is limited to 4 places in NZ: (EDIT -> ...Auckland, Wellington, Queenstown...and......Christchurch...and soon Hamilton) Check their web site. But even in those places, if you're in a 'black spot" for their data you'll pick up Vodafone...and the phone should warn you of this.

Linuxluver:(IIRC...Auckland, Wellington, Queenstown...and......Dunedin???)

Hamilton, not Dunedin (edit: and Christchurch!). However, the Hamilton network is stilled being tuned & optimised so we are not currently advertising it as a BB Zone. It will work there, of course, but YMMV due to changing coverage conditions.
