How long does it take for the throttling to kick in? Because I was on telecom and that could take up to 24hours to kick in.

Its pretty much realtime. Both turning it on and off. Once you hit your cap - you'll be throttled within 15minutes usually.

It works while throttled which is more than I could say for slingshot too. Timed it will this month, ran out thismorning and should have reset at 1 today but I am not home to check.

I can say that when I was (and still am) on Vodafone I had not actually had it kick in for many months, just last month they started actually throttling it for real and it is so slow! I am back to Broadband now though, if you can call it that...

As Jonas said pretty much realtime - our online accounting system generally takes no longer than 5 minutes at anytime to show up your data, slightly related we are making some enhancements soon so that you will be able to view zero rated data and $2 YouTube etc, and will be adding some more interesting stuff to zero rating too.

Also mulling around the idea of having a tickbox on our accounts page to allow you to automatically buy more data at $x per GB when you hit your cap instead of being slowed to 64k

I dont like that idea, I infact hate it.

I would rather be throttled and then make the active decision to buy more data than to just have more automatically brought for me. There are numerous negatives which out weigh the positives of this idea.

Infact the throttling was one of the reasons I left telecom who just automatically add on a GB for $2.

I wouldnt be a happy bill payer if my wifi was compromised and someone went on a downloading spree, most IT savvy people would notice this happening or never allow it to happen, but for your average joe it might be a bit different.  I just see it as a money grab and not one of convenience for customers.

Oh well thats my 2 cents anyways..

I think the idea here is that it is an optional feature, off by default, so in your case you would simply leave it unticked.

Only if you sharpen the rate up somewhat, vs the punishing rate that extra data is at the moment

+1 on that...

that's the only real thing that lets snap down in my opinion, is the waay overcharging of extra data blocks if you don't want to be throttled..
Personally I don't know what's worse, being throttled or having to pay the extra costs atm..

Telecoms packages have a choice of reduction in speed, which gives you price certainty, or you can choose the $2/Gb. The old plan Pro, is the only exception, this does only have $2/Gb excess, but the Total Home pacakages offer better value, and the choice of 64k/$2/Gb
