Hi,

I live in Christchurch and have just switched over to Orcon Genius. I was amused to find that when my voip phone was set up they gave me a number with an 09 area code.  My code is supposed to be 03.  Now free calls to Auckland is all good, but not at the expense of having to make a toll call to ring my neighbor up the road.  How could they do something so stupid lol?

You presuambly didn't port your existing number to Orcon? Simple error I'd assume.

I just switched my Internet connection from Orcon to Telecom because Orcon wouldn't let me change my data quota without taking over my landline. I'm not on an unbundled exchange, so there was absolutely no benefit to me in having them take over my landline. Orcon's phone support is.....trying to be nice, now...."terrible". Not going there.

Switching to Telecom with a reduced data quota (60GB) will save me about $100 / month.

How Orcon forgetting to port the number makes TelstraClear "stingy"?

Orcon tried to say Telstraclear were refusing to port number and it was propitiatory to TC.  I checked this out and Orcon were telling porkies. Sorry Telstraclear you not stingy after all lolEmbarassed

Im with orcon and recently relocated from Auckland to Kaikohe Northland and requested to change my plan to the orcon genius and have my number changed, its now nearly been 3 months and I have only just recently got the broadband connected, and am yet to have my ph line connected because Orcon agents keep telling me I can use my 09 auckland number in kaikohe because they have the same area code?

when advised NO i cant use it it just does'nt work and when told if local numbers call me they will b charged to call an auckland number, and if you try to call the auckland number it will say it does'nt exsist anyway, agents still hve not clicked and many a jobs have been logged to the provisioning team,1 agent even read the notes to the provisioners saying "customer wants to port number to kaikohe" I advised him I do not want to port my number Im not coming from a different telco company.. I just want my number changed to this local calling area.. I've even selected a number.. and YET I still wait paitiently..

tonight I will be calling them up and probably going to start demanding to speak with a manager 3 months is just to long to be waiting for a blinken phone.

A number can only be allocated and issued within the same LCA (local calling area) to which it applies. This is how the NAD rules work.

This means an Auckland number can't be allocated to a customer in Kaikohe, however Orcon would probably set up forwarding from your Auckland number to a Kaikohe number, no doubt for a free. Your number can't be "moved" to the Kaikohe LCA because it's an Auckland LCA number.

He's not asking to move the number sbiddle, he's asking for a new number.

Well Orcon has lost their chance for me to forgive them for being useless screw ups, they will be losing our account as my phone was promised to be connected within two days and and now we heading to the fifth.  All they do is use stall tactics and come up with rubbish excuses.  I'm afraid unless they can suck it up and provide 6 months free service then they are gone.  Should have stayed with telstraclear. I reccommend noone touches Orcon with a 10 foot barge poll as they are completely useless.
