hi, our flat has been with orcon since the start of the year. up until about two months ago we had no problems with the service. over the past two months our internet speeds have become terrible. we have tryed using differnt phone jacks and filters in our flat and have had no success. its getting to the point where most of the time we cannot even change web pages while on a google search and have to hit refresh 50million times before the page will turn. we are using a belkin surf f7d2401 V1 (I think.) we have tried hard wiring into the modem and this does not provide any better results.

Have you done an isolation test?

What are the line stats from the modem?

Might be a good idea to read thru some other threads or we will just be repeating ourselves

So speedtest results are fine

Have you check DNS entries?

As John mentions check the DNS entries, but I suspect they will be as dished out by Orcon and correct. Have you tried another modem, Belkin is not a favourite of mine, and could be in knots. Is there someone in the flat doing lots of Bit torrents? having lots of open connections as BT will do can kill domestic routers.

You sync speed as you say is 14Mb/s so a TCP throughput of 12Mb/s is what should be expected by the time you take TCPATM overhead into account, in otherwords your DSL line is not necessarily the issue.

Post a tracert to www.google.co.nz - my connection was going via the UK this morning. HE.net got ddos'ed today and that seems to have upset the cart in places for some people in the region. Don't know if it's related at all.

Is it just Google or are there other specific sites you're having issues with?

Sounds like your modem from what your saying. Can you try a separate one (e.g. borrow from friend?)

Cool... ok, narrowing it down :)

Can you tell us a bit more about your set up?

Have you tried just using one computer only with no p2p software, just a web browser?

Is the computer connected to the router or is it wifi (sorry don't know about that belkin model stuff)?

+1

I think Dick Smith will also let you bring stuff back within a week.  So just grab a new one and see if that helps.
