So since changing over from Slingshot my upload has gone from 1.2 down to a rock steady 7.7 is there a reason for this. Orcon asked me to run a series of test, Ping, Trace and Speed and to send them the results. That was 15 working days ago and no answer to my other follow up emails.

This makes a huge different when your uploading work to clients as every thing takes almost twice as long.

So, is it the Genius router or the settings- or is at the Orcon end or at the cabinet. I'm no geek so looking for help from some knowledgable geeks. I' just trying to get the best out of my line for my home business. Can anyone help. Much appreciated.

Thanks.

you seem to be saying that your upload speed using the genius is 7.7Mbps?

that is actually physically impossible.

you also say it has gone 'down' from 1.2 to 7.7. shouldn't that be up?

ETA: maybe a typo in the OP?  gone down from 1.2 to 0.7 maybe?

Yeah, bad engrish there.

With Slingshot upload was. 1.2mb

The day I plugged in the Genius I started getting a maximum of 770kb

And that's with the plan that is Max down and Max Up... so they say.

~800kbps is a normal average upload speed from ADSL2+ using a 12dB noise margin that Chorus run on their ISAM's. Around 900kbps is the theoretical maximum.

If you were on a Slingshot ULL DSLAM previously and had a low attenuation you should have been able to get around 1 - 1.1 Mbps upstream as they run with a much lower 6dB noise margin which can introduce errors on poor quality lines.

There isn't anything you can do to change this as it's a limitation of ADSL2+ and Annex M isn't used by Chorus. If uploads are important you might want to look at VDSL alternatives.

Cheers that sounds about right. Well if I can get the speed I  want- yet I have a plan I like and a phone I like I may have to just live with. Thanks for the info.
