Hey guys.

We have had far too many problems with 2degrees, but this one seems simple to me, yet they cannot/don't want/don't know how to fix.

Our Business account holder can use USSD fine.

The remainder of the 'team' cannot, including me.

When we go to use USSD, the response we get no matter what balance option we select is always "bal $0.00, NZ Mins [remaining mins] texts [remaining txts]". The [] actually have figures of our actual minutes (less bonus mins remaining) and txts.

To me this response looks typical of a prepay balance.

2degrees are telling us it is a known problem and they are working on it. It has now been 2 months, and they cannot/will not tell us any more.Their suggested solution is to check balances online.

Has anyone else experienced this problem, or understand how USSD works and why this is such an issue that they cannot easily fix?

Sorry if I sound a little ranty and unknowledgeable. Just a tad annoyed at their lack of communication.

Thanks!

To be fair this is probably not a problem on how USSD works, but how the system that runs USSD interfaces with their system. Perhaps it was built to connect to the prepay system but on account might be another system and not ready for the interface.

Yes. I was just thinking that. What confuses me is that it works for the account holder no problems, but the team members it just won't work. I guess if it is an account by account basis, as it may have been set up, then yeah, account holder would be fine.

I would still be interested to see if anyone else has experienced the same issue.

Cheers for the quick response!

The USSD gateway is another of my babies.

Mauricio is correct; the USSD gateway simply sends a balance request to the middleware systems, which figure out what should be asked for, go get it, turn it into a string, and then send it back to the USSD gateway to display on your handset.

First thing I need to check is that your HLR records have the right U-CSI template (in other words, are you triggering the prepay or postpay USSD menus?). After that I will pass to the middleware teams for more investigation.

Please PM me the MSISDN of the account holder (working) and one or more other MSISDNs (not working).

It's also possible that this is a 'feature' -- there ARE some things that single-connect customers can do that multi-connect customers can't, which indeed are being worked on but require software deliveries from the CRM vendor. I didn't think that was one of them, but that's not my area so I could be wrong.

Got ya. That makes sense. After reading a bit more about USSD it make a lot more sense.

@SaltyNZ have just messaged you.

The biggest annoyance for me is being unable to see included data balance by USSD.

Thanks guys.
