I have recently been in the UK and upon returning to NZ I bought a blackberry 9780.

It was locked to Orange UK however I got it unlocked.

The phone works fine with my O2 (UK) sim-card in it, and so I am sure the unlock has gone fine, however when I put my 2 degrees sim in it, it says the "sim is rejected" and the "SOS" is displayed.

My 2 degrees sim is atleast 12 months old in case smartphone's need a newer sim that I am unaware of.

When I go Options > Device > Advance System Settings > Sim Card everything is displayed as disabled. I cannot click on any of them to change to enabled.

Does anyone know what the problem is?

Cheers.

Well, that does very much sound like the phone is in fact still locked.

Have you tried the 2d SIM in another phone, and another SIM in the Blackberry?

iPad Pro 11" + iPhone 15 Pro Max + 2degrees 4tw!

Sounds like Handset is still SIM locked,

You will need to contact place of purchase for the handset

Can't see why your O2 SIM working in it would make you think it was unlocked - it was locked to their network in the first place so putting the O2 SIM is a poor test for seeing if it is unlocked or not!

I'm siding with the others and saying it is still locked.

Keewee it was locked to Orange, and my 02 sim works in it. Are you implying that I need to unlock it for every networks sim that I am to put in it? Would the unlock not be universal?

I have heard of BlackBerries needing a Blackberry file on the SIM to use push email and other features but basic calling and registering on the network should be fine.

Definately handset issue, so check the 2degrees SIM in another handset.

Agree with you  here. During the textmerace I chucked 6 different 2degrees Sims into an old blackberry and worked fine, just data, emails, BBM, ect wouldn't work. Definitely looks like the phone is locked still or that the sim may not be working, I know a couple of people who have just simply had a sim card swapped to a new one and worked fine, you can pick up blank sims to swap it onto from warehouse stationary and also possibly a 2deg store.

Hiya,

As others have suggested, It does sound like your phone may still be locked, if not to Orange, then possibly to UK providers.

You can try this Less than perfect solution (if it even works), but i have seen a similar issue with different blackberry devices..  Try going into the Mobile Network setup screen, and selecting it to use 2G only.
