Hi

Can I stop the answering service I got with my 2Degrees account. I never use it and don't want people leaving messages.

have you asked 2Degrees? that would seem to be the most expedient route.

There are two ways to do it. You can manage your own voicemail to stop people recording messages - they will still hear your recorded greeting, but will not be able to leave you a message. The other way is to call customer care and have them remove the default call forward which will disable voicemail altogether; if you don't answer, the caller will receive a 'we can't reach the mobile you're calling' message.

BIG Thanks! I just called and disabled mine altogether. I especially like the caller will receive a 'we can't reach the mobile you're calling' message.

You can turn off message deposit by managing your own voicemail, but default call forward is an HLR setting that cannot be overridden by the subscriber (it's the default when the subscriber hasn't configured anything else).

With option 1 the caller still pays to hear this message. With option2 the caller does not pay.

That's pretty cool. Back in 1998 when I got my first cell phone I called Vodafone and asked them to disable voice mail, but was told that they could not do so. I wonder if they still have it compulsory to gather extra revenue...I'm with 2Degrees now (of course) who also offer many other excellent features that Vodafone could never be bothered implementing, for example time-of-day syncing, and prepay menu on the phone.

Vodafone have let voicemail be disabled for ~10 years now.

In the BellSouth days their interconnect agreement with Telecom required that 100% of calls be terminated when they left the Telecom network, so it was actually a revenue earner for Telecom, not BellSouth/Vodafone.

As a result of BellSouth having to offer voicemail, they moved to a flat rate price for voicemail access and dind't charge the receiver for the voicemail despoit, whereas Telelecom used to charge the regular per min calling rate for both.

I did this just now, the CSR was great. I hardly had to wait to get through & they got me sorted quick smart. So thank you for this post & 2 degrees for good service.
