I have just formally requested to change my VDSL profile from 8a to 17a through the Snap helpdesk.

But apparently Telecom are either declining the change for 99% of the requests, or even if they manage to get one through, the profile gets reset back automatically after a day or two back to 8a.

He mentioned something about the 'DLM'? not sure what it is, and he also mentioned that the DSLAMS need a firmware upgrade to accomodate this? This is at Telecoms discretion, and of course they are not wanting to move us to potential 100Mb speeds!

Has anyone else found this with any other ISP? Or is it a Telecom level thing?

Is anyone on profile 17a? If so what are your speeds/attenuation?

You have to remember (I think) that the WVS product still in the "soft launch" phase.

Also Telecom Wholesale are under no obligation to offer a 100Mbit VDSL2 service to Snap just just because you want one. WVS (Wholesale VDS2L Service) is not a regulated product, the service spec's are whatever is in the service specification and contact between Snap and Telecom Wholesale.

Q: Are you <200m from the cabinet/exhange?

DLM = Dynamic Line Management

It's a feature that will automatically manage profile and SNR settings to optimise a connection.

If your line had DLM in place they're probably rejecting it because it was determined your existing profile was best suited to your connection.

my attenuation is 2, and somewhere I worked out around 140m from the cabinet. SNR goes between 8-11

No, but VDSL2 can do 100Mbps/50Mbps on a 17a profile.

On a 17a profile is the upload still limited to 10mbps? Would be nice to have an improvement there.

People probably need to understand how complex VDSL2 is compared to ADSL. Start installing poor connections and bad power management won't just result in a bad connection, it's got the potential to effect every single cutomer in that cable bundle.

Yes, and from what I understand this is the very reason Telecom is hesitant to migrate anyone from a standard profile on to 17a.

Also, I am positive I would be a prime candidate to move to 17a when/if telecom decide. My stats seem great, close to cabinet, cable comes into garage from the street straight into the modem, and nowhere else.

I am starting to think that VDSL2 is a gap filler and is not on anyone's high priority list. I am willing to bet everyone is waiting to invest in UFB instead.
