Is there any way to stop ANY SMS messages at a SIM level? I have a M2M machine here that looses the plot ever-time 2degress thanks me for being a customer.

You could just opt out of the marketing messages. But in answer to your question, yes, you can use supplementary services to bar incoming SMS. Let me look it up for you.

You work for 2Degrees? Do you guys offer private APN's?

Yes, it's *35*PIN*16# to bar incoming SMS, and #35*PIN*16# to unbar it again.

I do work for 2degrees, but no we do not currently offer private APNs. They really don't offer you anything you can't get more easily using VPN software. Having said that, if someone came along offering enough connections we would certainly work with them.

This project in it's infancy has the potential for 100's of data sims. At the moment I am dancing between vodafone and you guys topping up multiple sims which is a knightmare and will become unmanageable. If you can offer nationwide GPRS and managed sims then we should talk.

Easiest way would be to put the SIM into a handset.

If you have access to send AT commands direct from the device (and if the device supports access to supplementary services, which it may or may not) then there are standard command sets for that.

Without wanting to infringe on anyone's copyrights, I think you'd be looking at something like this:

Call barring +CLCK

Description:
This command allows control of the call barring supplementary service. Locking, unlocking or
querying the status of call barring is possible for all classes or for a specific class.

Syntax:
Command Syntax: AT+CLCK= <fac>, <mode> [, <password> [, <class> ] ]
Response Syntax: (for <mode>=2 and command successful)
+CLCK: <status> [, <class1> [ <CR><LF>+CLCK: <status>, <class2> [… ] ]
